New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I highly recommend listening to Brandon Capps from New Image on this pod, he shares how he uses hop extracts. Podcast Episode 202: Brandon Capps of New Image Brews Better IPAs Through Chemistry One of the interesting things that he mentions that they only dry hop for 24 hours because the...

I thought you guys would find these interesting since these types of products aren't usually available to homebrewers: Mass Whole Hops Extraction Ltd. - CO2 hop extract Oast House Oils - hop and fruit terpenes Once I get through my brewing backlog, it'd be fun to throw both of these into a brew...

Turning your Fermonster into a complete closed transfer system for cheap!

Success post! Other than some issues getting the lid off, we're in business. Loving the setup so far, another beer going into it this weekend, just Biermuncher's Helles this time. Closed transfers for all!! No issues with the transfer, but when the ball got low, the tube started sucking in the...

Haha I feel ya! I broke a solid sweat trying to open it over the course of 20 minutes.

So far so good with my first fermentation in the 'Monster, it's just hard to get the lid unscrewed sometimes. Has anyone else had this issue? I think some wort may have made it sticky. Any tips for getting it open or for gym exercises for the lid opening muscles? ;)

I just had a little email exchange with YVH and they shared some bad news about Nectaron. They're not very likely to source any until next year or even 2023. The rep did note that they're hopefuly to try to snag some, but the outlook is bleak :( I guess this is my year to keep experimenting...

I honestly just run CO2, open the lid and dump it in, but for the more sophisticated folks, here's one great method: Chino's Gelatin cannon.

Quality brews as usual! I think there's something very good to be said about layering different crops/lots/years and hop products in these beers. I believe it was New Anthem podcast of CB&B where the brewer talked about this type of layering to add depth and complexity to their beers. Using T90...

Yeah, you got yourself some bangers! I brewed with Talus before and it was pretty explosive. I used 2oz in the dry hop and it overpowered 4oz of Mosaic and 2oz of Citra with some super peachy flavors. You can easily pair it with Citra or Vic Secret. Alternatively, Nectaron/Citra could be...

Pics or it didn't happen! :p Seriously though, 1.018 is a great place to be. It's usually my target with the double IPAs. I want to say that Cosmic Punch attenuates much better than its LAIII counterpart, which is fantastic.

How does one unscrew both sides of the bulkhead? My keg post keeps unscrewing freely, but the bottom nut won't come off.

Dude, YES!! Lube did it. I can't believe I didn't think to put any lube on it. The o-ring didn't quite fall into place until well lubed up, it looked like it was too big for the hole, but damn, lube is like magic! Edit: That's what he said.

I know what you mean, I was a little worried about those edges, but the hissing appears to be coming from the bottom and starsan didn't really show any leaks on top. I'll just get another lid from Amazon and see how it goes. Question - how did you smooth the ridges out at the bottom of the lid?

Ah, I think I can live with that. My posts are just far enough to both be connected :)

DONE I tested the setup with 12 PSI and while 5 PSI was holding well, at 12 psi there's a low hissing noise out of the bottom of the lid. It'll probably be ok for transfers, but has anyone else had this issue? I'm wondering if I should order a new lid.

Interesting, how long did you cold crash for? I've shipped plenty of beers and never had gushers or exploding ones, thankfully.

You really kind of have to aerate with this yeast, it hates to attenuate no matter how much you pitch. It's particularly bad at bigger beers, but some brewers manage to use it for 8% brews. Aeration has to be the trick here. Nonetheless, Fort George make some fantastic beers in OR and they use...

What do you think pilsner malt adds here? I've seen a few breweries use it in their IPA malt bills.

:off: I really dug this latest episode of CB&B podcast. While hop substitutes/extracts market is slowly growing, it's surprising how stuck in their ways many commercial breweries are with using pellets. Shipping aside as I only ship meager amounts, my primary concern is how much beer pellets...

Haha, no worries at all! If one day you do decide to bottle, check out the "We no need no stinking beer gun" method. I've sent bottles to friends and comps and it's always worked out well. I just top them off to make sure that the foam pushes out all of O2. Bonus is that I sold my BeerGun and...
