To Brew Or Not To Brew

Wine kit??? I'm new and even I know that you buy some straight up grape juice, add sugar till your hydrometer says "desert wine" add a wine yeast and let it go! Shouldn't be too hard to make a wine and let it sit.....

    Bottle Bomb Tester

It's my impression that you should add sugar ( or concentrate ) to taste, then a touch more and let it go at that. As an experiment, I used what I had drawn out of my apple cider for a hydrometer test plus a touch more, added a tsp. of brown sugar and let it go in a coke bottle on my counter...

    Bottle Bomb Tester

I will still respect my cabing bottles and gingerly stove top pasteurize them, along with the pop bottle gauge and this thread, I just feel more comfortable with it.

    Bottle Bomb Tester

Plus you wouldn't want to just let the bottles go. Remember he said that it was way too bubbly for him? You want your bottles to have the right am out of carb so they bubble nicely, not geyser onto your ceiling! I do feel much better about bottling now though, at first I was terrified of BB's...

    Starting 2 ciders this weekend!

The spiked grape juice was exactly what I was looking at. Although my local store has blueberry pomegranate juice that I think I'm going to try next. The pop bottles are regular 20 oz bottles that I have saved the caps from. Just screw on deals. That is unless I can get my hands on some swing...

    Starting 2 ciders this weekend!

So racked my small guy last night (it's starting to clear already) and now big blue has stopped bubbling (sigh) no bottles to bottle big blue so he'll have to wait. Small fry is going to be back sweetened this weekend and put I pop bottles. Not very classy, but oh we'll. It's be in the mid 80*...

    Starting 2 ciders this weekend!

Ok so here is the small one. Air lock has stopped completely. Little globs of yeast occasionally shoot up from the bottom and then sink again. Wondering if I should rack to a secondary now or just wait. These finished very quick, so I'm going to have to bottle the small one in pop bottles and...

    Starting 2 ciders this weekend!

    Starting 2 ciders this weekend!

Big blue tasted good, still strong alcohol taste, but good. Cran apple was lighter fluid! Hope that mellows! Lol!

    Starting 2 ciders this weekend!

Ok so air lock activity has slowed a great deal. Took reading on both batches: Carmel Apple is at 1.010 which is about 6.3% abv Cran apple is at 1.000 (maybe a little higher) but even if its a little bit higher that puts it in the 7 to 7.5% range. These have been going since Saturday. The...

    Caramel Apple Hard Cider

I would imagine it would impart a slight apple flavor. In that case what's the point? Just make some cider.....
