booze for a desperate high school kid

It's not that uncommon for kids, at least in Sweden, to buy turbo yeast and a few kilos of suger. Ferment it to hell and flavor it with something. They sell everything in the state's army surplus stores (which, over the years has evolved into a cheap super market chain) and it's not really...

    What are you drinking now?

I'm drinking something... rather odd. Saké mixed with a pitch black smoked ale: It's not bad... not bad at all... a biiiit light, will fill with more of that pitch black deliciousness as I drink. slightly drunk... now... this is intoxicating (IT'S HARD TO SPELL!) This was way better as a...

It was sweet, with clear floral tones from the honey.

    Bochet Braggot

Weigh the pot alone, then weigh after the boil with the honey still in it and subtract the weight of the pot. Ta-duh!

    Bochet Braggot

I suggest doing two batches, one of each. :P But honestly, I have no idea. I only did a tiny batch fermented in a 2 liter coca-cola bottle, so I didn't really have anything to lose and I just went wild with what I had. Recipe I used: 50 grams of chocolate malt, 50 grams of light DME and 400...

    Bochet Braggot

I did a chocolate braggot, nothing wrong with jet black mead. I only had a little taste when botteling, and it was... weird but good. Only chocolate malt, light dry DME, honey and ale yeast. It's 15% ABV.

    Five European Beers

I live close to Uppsala, it's the next town over. Freaky. But, hmmm... I can't really think of any good European beers at this exact moment. Except for Primátor Premium Dark. I'll come back to you on this. Get your hands on some Gottländsk Rökmalt, it's Swedish smoked malt. I really like it...

    What are you drinking now?

Me and my old man's Smoked Ale, his first extract brew - and my last extract brew. Two cans of Coopers Real Ale, 100 grams of Swedish smoked malt (reaaaally smokey stuff) and.. I think some crystal or chocolate malt. Maybe both. Took ages to mellow out. Edit: MAN, this beer is WEIRD. Smoth as...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm making Ed Worts Haus Pale with my old man, this is our second all grain brew. Spent 30 minutes looking for the kettle lid... found it by accident behind a book shelf. o_O Edit: This was suppose to be the first all grain recipe we were going to do, but I decided to go with my own original...

    What are you drinking now?

Currently enjoying my all time favorite beer, Brewdog Tokyo Intergalatic Fantastic Oak Aged Stout 18.2%. Appropriately, I'm also listening to Flower Travellin' Band - Satori (Part 2), the most psychedelic song to come out of 70's Japan. Man, this beer is just too damn good. It's been about a...

Imperial IPA - with or without chili?

I'm helping my father with his home brewing (I'm a newbie myself :P), and out of the three recipes I made for him to start with I made one is an Imperial Pale Ale which I think he'll like. And recently, he bought three ordinary red chili he doesn't know what to do with - so I suggested putting...

    Temperature throws off sg readings?

That is very low. Mine are calibrated for 20°c, any lower and I'd have to put my sample in the fridge before measuring.

5 JAOMs with 5 different Lalvin wine yeasts

I wouldn't say worthless, and yeasts can vary alot so there should be a difference. From a scientific perspective - you can never know unless you try, and repeat your results. :P Although I'm quite sure you're not the first one to try, though. Personally, I've never rehydrated yeast. And for a...
