That's a SH*TLOAD of Sugar! Belgians I assume with the sugar and orange peel?

I usually go with the dark as it has a little more malt character. There is only a slight difference in lovibond between the light and dark. I am fine with either one though!

Yes, I can do a split on the German stuff.

Sign me up for one bag of CM-2ROW. Also willing to split a bag of Munich with someone too. Plus - if any of you Sugar Land or SW Houston folks want to get together for a brew session, drop me a PM! My brewing buddy moved to far North Houston. A 1.5 hour drive each way on a brew day is too...

    Who has cones already?

Hot and no rain! I am watering 2x a day just to keep them from drying out.

Baby cones growing down in Houston already. Sorry for the blurry pictures - it is too windy to get a good shot!

DeFalco's St. Almost Amber Ale Recipe

Congrats on the brew. Defalcos has some good basic recipes. Started there 10+ years ago with a trappist recipe they have. Good to see another local Houston brewer!

another hops in TX thread, Pearland TX

Planted in late March 2010 - just as early as the rhizomes got to the mail box. The second year plant sprouted by late February this year. The growth cycle is definitely earlier down here. I have baby cones forming already too. I am up for a meet just about anytime. I don't know Pearland...

They were in full sun for about a month or so until the trees filled out with leaves. Hopefully the partial sun will keep them from baking in June/July.

Where and when? I am over in Sugar Land - full kegerator and a bunch in bottles! LOL. My 2nd year Cascades are at the top of the garage and are putting out the cones already. The new batch of 1st years are just now up through the mulch.

HOLY COW!! That is a mean looking bug! Imagine running into that thing if you were the size of an ant!

    Midwest Hops Arrived

Ordered from Rebel Brewer mid March. Contacted them Tuesday for an update. The guy working the phone said they were getting the rhizomes Wed/Thurs and shipping starting Friday 4/1. Hope they get here quick since my 2nd year cascades are at 5' already! Happy growing!

Hops in Planters - Austin, TX

Good luck with the hops! My single surviving Cascade from last year is happy this year and hitting about 4' now with three strong bines. The Houston heat pretty much shut growth down by mid July.

    buy new hops?

Me three on the first year to grow. I put in two cascades. One sprouted within a week - the other nada. Southeast Texas has been consistently in the 70s - so I am assuming the non-sprout is a gonner. I'll hopefully be able to pick up a replacement at the LHBS tomorrow.

    Termites

That sucks. I guess termites like cascades more than the others.
