DIY Keggle Conversion (video!)

you can always make smaller batches in a keggle if you think you will be moving up later. the keggle weighs a bit more, but that is the only drawback. if i find another keggle, i might cut it down to 7 gallon size for smaller boils. i made a keggle, but didn't have a plasma cutter available...

    Chai Stout

I'm planning one. I found a promising recipe here: DaveDave Breweries: Spiced Chai Rice Extract Milk Stout I've emailed the guy and he is going to send me his final recipe and further mods. He said he used tea for the base, but I doubt that it was the whole 5 gallons of liquid!

How to go from Extract to AG for < $10.00

(them's prolly aussie dollars) in my research on AG, i came across this: The Brewing Network • View topic - How to go from Extract to AG for < $10.00 probably controversial, but a slightly easier way to make the jump to AG. basically the same way i've been doing extract kits with...

Way, way, way over the top Sam Adams Utopia clone

paul just lured me over here from the winepress forum. engineering your own utopia clone sounds like more geeky fun than lighting a BBQ with LOX! (have you considered adding this to the event?) if i didn't have previous plans, i'd be looking for cheap airfairs! i was at the epcot food and wine...

    Propane burner benefits

i have an old antique cast iron burner, no idea how many BTUs. it takes 30 minutes to get 2 gallons(extract kit) to 170 and another 25 to bring to boil in my 14" diameter SS pot. i wrap a skirt of aluminum foil around the base of the pot and overhanging around the burner for a windscreen. i...

    No-boil vs extract

I've made a few extract kits(Brewer's Best) and have been pretty happy with the process. However, I recently heard about no boil kits that take about 1.5 hours compared to 4 for brewing and look to be less messy and involved. I plan to still do extract and may move up to all grain...

    Calculating Final Abv, after bottling

i just bottled a russian imperial stout (brewer's best brand extract kit). according to the recipe, it should yield 7 - 8% calculating ABV from SG before bottling gives 5.8%, but how do i calculate final ABV? i added 5 oz priming sugar to the five gallon batch.

Star San dilution ratios bottle sprayers

i use an old syringe. it's easier to measure out a precise amount. 1 oz = 30 ml. a gallon takes 6 ml. i have an old lysol spray bottle that is 22 oz and 1 ml of starsan added to it. i wrote the numbers on the bottle so i don't have to look it up when i forget.

Better Bottles - this really makes me want to buy some

yes, but don't try using vacuum on a BB. it will just collapse. i've seenthat when trying to degas wine with an electric vacuum pump. pressure should work fine, though. i will not be buying any more glass carboys after using BBs for a year. i can pick up one with two fingers. handling a 12 lb...

    slow beer

this is my second kit. i have a "true brew" all malt pale ale kit brewing. it's been 15 days now. it started at 1.043 and is currently at 1.017, for a calculated 3.5% alcohol. it's still bubbling along. i can see the tiny bubbles and the airlock is releasing them at about 8 seconds. the...
