    Beer and death?

I agree, distilled alcohol hits more quickly. I can attest to a bar where plaques were put up for anyone who could finish a Zombie and make it to the door unassisted. Pretty hard to find beers higher than maybe 7.2 % and most are 5% or less. But there are many factors to alcohol effect. Hell...

Congrats on all the recent Mr. Beer sucess....mine is NASTY!

The booster is responsible for cidery taste. You need a good 4 cans (lbs) of LME to make a decent 2=1/2 gallons of beer. That is why it is better to buy 5 gallon kits frome MoreBeer or others. Mr Neer is like $5/5- to $6.50 per pound of LME. Pretty high.

    My God it's cold!

My water filters took a hit from cold weather. Both a sandstone filter and carbon filter had their housings break. Both right on the bottom. Both housings made of plastic. And of course located on the wrong side of the house insulation. Already taken out of circuit. Will have to order some new...

    Hello from PA

While the Mr Beer kits will make suitable beer easily, I would recommend a second fermenter and a big boil pot so you can churn out 5 gtallon extract batches. MidwestBrewing.com AustinBrew.com MoreBeer.com all offer some great brew recipies. Most have steeping grains and it is advisable to get...

    Carrot wine.

I've tried Turnip wine. That got a rating of drinkable only with great determination.

    My God it's cold!

I live in what is commonly referred to as the 'bannana belt' of Oregon. Normally warm and rainy winters. Since Thursday, the temperature hasn't gotten above freezing or at least enough to matter. At night, temperatures are about 20 degrees F. And there is a good foot of snow here at 660 feet...

Do you really need a steeping bag?

Both a steeping bag and a hops bag will increase the amount of your beer brew at the end result. You can do without them, but the dregs at the end of fermentation will be increased.

dog may have ingested a little paint

My lab/pit mix will eat **** at any source, given the chance. Two other frequent poisons to dogs are grapes/raisens and walnuts. Clumping litter shouldn't be much of a problem as a dog's digestive system is capable of passing some pretty big obstructions. I have heard of them passing cell...

dog may have ingested a little paint

Hops are not good for dogs, but I forget the process. But I think you'll find dogs are repulsed by the smell, let alone taste of hops. And any amount in beer would be insufficient to be harmful. But dogs do not process alcohol well, again risking liver failure. Most of the deadly poisons to...

dog may have ingested a little paint

One thing that is really lethal to both dogs and cats is tyannol. Even one tablet will destroy the liver. I quit taking NSAIDS because of reports of being hard on the liver as well as stomach. I was told that Decon was about as deadly as dehydrated (instant) potatoes. Works on the same...

dog may have ingested a little paint

Latex paint isn't very toxic and probably not that palatable to be conumed in health threatening quantity. Still, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer's poison control center and taking the appropriate action. My dog ate a Decon rat poison about a year ago. When I contacted the...

What is your Favorite Bottle Opener?

Are you implying that you open bottles with your thum, your teeth or are you using flippy tops? <lol>

    Unable to boil wort?

Using a lid will definitely help. But most electric stoves are marginal unless equiped with an extra high wattage element. When it comes to heating, gas is better and more economical, with few exceptions.

    do you use clarifying agents?

Only when making a lager or pilsner have I bothered with clarifiers. Otherwise I find it a wasted effort.

Why doesnt bentonite spoil brews ?

Both Bentonite and Kayolite are used in milkshakes to thicken. So, this could hint of the contents when it doesn't melt like ice cream. Both are very similar clays. Bentonite used as a drilling mud and underground water sealant.

What is your Favorite Bottle Opener?

    Allergic to Hops

Allergy to hops should present little problems. Simply take an antihistamine prior to drinking. The antihistamine should also allow the alcohol to give a better buzz. Novahistine is a highly recommended OTC antihistamine.

    Mr. Beer as secondary?

Main thing with Mr Beer is use two so you can make 5 gallon batches from some of the better recipes out there. Most of the sediment you get with Mr Beer's recipes will be from hops addition. I recommend going to extract with steeping grains for a better brew. Mr Beer is still a good way to go...

Anyone use a tankles hotwater heater?

I had an RV that used a propane fired tankless water heater. It was great for getting hot water fast. It got up in about 2 seconds and the water was plenty hot enough for making instant coffee from the tap. Had to be careful not to get scalded in the shower. They're great as add ons and where...

How to ground a water heater element

I learned not to trust wiring. I know of a house that has an interesting case. You can turn off the mains on the panel and the kitchen still has electricity. The obvious is that that circuit bypasses the breaker panel. Same house does not have the required weatherhead input to the house...
