    Purging a corny keg

Then go ahead and waste your CO2. Rev.
  2. Rev2010

    Purging a corny keg

No, you don't need to keep the CO2 valve open to the keg. You'll just waste more CO2. Rev.

    Purging a corny keg

Yes, you are wrong. Why don't people immediately asphyxiate when entering underground caves? Gas stratification and atmospheric stratification is a rather complex science. It's not so clear cut as "one is heavier than the other" - and density is more of what we're speaking of. Gases mix and take...

    Purging a corny keg

Here we go again. This information is plain wrong. Stratification doesn't occur in seconds. If it did we would all be dead on planet Earth as all CO2 would settle to sea level and the O2 would be above and out of reach of our lungs. It doesn't work that way. Rev.

    Why am I doing this?

It doesn't even apply to us in NYC. Trust me, I see a whole lot let ATM withdrawal's when I have my own beers in the kegerator. I don't spend the typical $12 for a standard 12oz 6-pack or the $15-17 for a 12oz craft beer 6-pack or 4x16oz pack. I also spend less in bars since I have better beer...

    Mangled Hand

No offense to anyone intended.... but I will say I still cannot understand why some search and find an ancient thread and post in it instead of just starting a new thread or adding to a long term still active thread (like the broken glass compendium thread). At the very least, reviving a...

    Purging a corny keg

Using sanitizer and pushing it out with CO2 will use up less CO2 than completely CO2 filling an empty keg and purging it several times to ensure the O2 is out. You will still need to purge the headspace couple of times if using a filled keg of sanitizer, but you will use a lot less CO2. Rev.

Installed Accuflex Bev-Seal Ultra lines last night

Man that tubing is a PITA! Had a fairly easy time getting it on the tower shank barbs, that wasn't the issue. The first one I got on the easiest, the second took two tries and went on. Just the stiffness of the dang stuff is so unwieldy to handle. If it didn't have the convenient feet markings...

coconut on my mind for recipe ...

I use 2 packs of Nottingham for my Imperial Spicy Pumpkin Stout. Last time it volcano'd out the airlock and it got so bad I had to open the fermenter and skim off the top krausen to tame it lol! (it worked) So, this time I made sure to use my Ss Brewbucket blowoff elbow attachment. I have the...

pH meter storage solution drying out and turning white?

I've found for pH meters that don't have a good rubber ring around the base to create a good seal that using a piece of tape wrapped fully around the area where the cap meets the body helps to seal in the moisture much better. Of course, always store it in upright standing orientation as well...

    Stout Water Profile

I was only able to find a 2017 water report for your township (Saugerties NY?). It didn't contain all the info we typically use but it looked fine with fairly low mineral levels. As far as chlorine, there are several ways you can rid the water of chlorine. You can A) Let your entire volume of...

Btw, is your tap water no good? Do you have a water report for your tap water? Perhaps you could also 50/50 blend your tap with RO. Also, do you have and use a pH meter? Rev.

I'm at work so I don't have much time to mess around, but I pulled this up. Add one more gallon of mash water as I've done below. Your grain to water ratio will be 1.5 quarts per pound, likely better for such a large grain bill anyhow. I would suggest to stop worrying about having to be at 5.5 -...

    Stout Water Profile

So if you're going to just ignore good advice given to you why post asking a question? The levels mentioned already are super high and need reduction. The flavor impacts will be more hurtful than having a lower pH. As for slaked lime (aka pickling lime) it's used in *plenty* of foods you eat...

    Oxiclean...two years and no infections

So I received a notification for a post being deleted from this thread for not being on topic and this is considered on topic?

I wasn't in any way trying to comment on it's acidity in the mash. Just that he has an overly complex grain bill and that he has a bit much of crystal/specialty malts. Rev.

Order slaked lime on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074B8F2BP/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Be aware, use gloves when handling it as skin contact can cause burns. Also don't send the powder airborne as it can burn the throat and eyes if contacted/inhaled. Rev.

    1. You have Victory listed as a base grain but at 28L should be a Crystal. 2. You have 9 different grains in the bill. Definitely does not need to be so complex 3. You have three crystal malts in there at over 20% total of the grain bill. I'd suggest ditching one. The CaraAmber and Victory are...
