    Effects of too much malto-dextrine

I brewed an extract Pliny the Elder clone tonight with an OG of 1.078. Essentially 9lbs of light LME, 1/2lbs light DME, and 1lbs corn sugar. The recipe called for 1/2lbs of Maltodextrine, and I accidentally added 1lb. What will this do to the final brew? Thanks for any help!

Malkore's (not so) Ancient Orange Mead

Brewed a 1 gallon batch of this this morning, pretty close to the recipe. I'll let you know how it turns out in a few months. Brew info on the blog, and a photo of the pre-fermenting product below: http://boykingbrewhaus.com/?p=248

    Pliny the Elder Kit Help

I just bought a Pliny the Elder extract kit from More Beer, and purchased US-05 with it. This beer has a target OG between 1.070 to 1.074. Will one pack of US-05 work or should I purchase another pack?

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

This is a pretty dark beer, but I decided to do a time lapse video of the first 5 days of fermentation. It's interesting to watch the fermentation pick up, see the bubbles behind the clock in the sanitized water, watch the temperature pick up during fermentation, and of course watch the yeast...

American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

Just drank my last bottle. I have the White House Honey Porter extract kit in the keg and doesn't even compare to this one. Time to order the ingredients to brew another batch!

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Hourglass - I have not done that before but it sounds like a good idea. Even though you use a grain bag, do you find hop particles at all in your keg that end up in the glass?

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

I found three bottles of this that I had bottled and forgotten about. My wife and I both had one last night and they were so good. Looking forward to hearing how yours turns out in a few weeks or so!

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

5 1/2 gallons in the fermenter. I'm anticipating an aggressive fermentation based on prior posts. I largely went with the original AG recipe with 7lbs base malt and .75lbs lactose.

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

Brewing this today using Wyeast 1084 (Irish Ale) yeast with a 2L starter. Waiting to drink it is always the hardest part! The extract ingredients were going to cost over $60 at Northern Brewer, but got all the AG ingredients for $42 including shipping.

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Awesome - did you guys brew the recipe or an adaptation? I'll be anxious to hear the results. I have the ingredients for a stout, but this one will be brewed again soon.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Just kegged and put this on gas after brewing for the first time. I went with the original recipe but added less than half an ounce of williamette that I had in the fridge at the end of the boil - hopefully that wasn't a mistake! Looking forward to tasting it soon!

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Our keg just kicked last night, and I'm already missing it! I think the Caramel analysis is right, this is a good beer as is but would probably be better with a little less Caramel (which would also fall in line with what SN e-mailed Ronarse - showing about 9% of recipe malt). I sent a few...

    Homebrewing Blog

+1 for hosting your own Wordpress. I know transitioning is no fun but it is so much easier and less headache. I've used both Joomla and Wordpress, and Wordpress is far easier and less time consuming for blogging.

    Homebrewing Blog

I am blogging at www.boykingbrewhaus.com. It's a newer blog and I hope to focus on brew days, techniques (as I refine them), and other brewing related topics. I've also posted some recipes there and hope to keep doing that as I develop them!

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

I could definitely taste the maltiness, but with the hop bill it balanced it out pretty well (in fact it had a little more hop character to it than the original Celebration). That being said, you could pull back on the caramel (maybe by 1/2lb) and it will still be a malt forward IPA similar to...

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

WeissGuy - the color did turn out right on. The measurement is the estimated SRM from BeerSmith. I did not take an actual color measurement (haven't done that before but should figure out how)!

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

My brew day just began with this one. If it's anything like Ed's Robust Porter, I'm in for a good beer!

    What are you drinking now?

Bell's Black Note Stout - a limited edition stout that is aged in bourbon barrels. Very smooth and good, especially on turkey day!

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Ok - this is my first time converting all grain to extract using Beersmith 2, but here it is (the beer smith xml file is also attached). I believe you would steep the grains as you heat the water up to 170. Again, someone may be able to do a better job converting this, but Beersmith indicates...

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

I've only been brewing for a year, and have only been doing all grain for half of that, but I believe it is easier to customize (and fine tune) your all grain recipe because you can choose the amounts of grain(s), the temperature at which you mash, you can add things like hops or fruit to the...
