Stella bottles ok for reuse in homebrewing?

They'll be fine (hey, free bottles!), but after filling them with beer you'll want to keep them in the dark, as green glass will do little to stop UV light from affecting the contents. Find a closet or dark room you can close them up in, or cover them up with a thick blanket if you have to.

American Wheat Beer American Wheat Beer - 2nd place Best of show - 2011 HBT BJCP competition

Another followup. This beer has been in bottles for only 5 days. I couldn't resist sacrificing one so I put it in the fridge for about two hours to chill then cracked it open. Nice carbonation already (used 4oz. priming sugar for about 5.5 gal) and it really tastes great. This is exactly...

    Just how screwed am I?

Most likely what you're describing is yeast rafts - clumps of yeast that have decided to stick to the surface. Kolsch yeast has very low flocculation, meaning it tends not to sink to the bottom of the fermenter. A picture would help us help you. DON'T DUMP IT!!

Boy, that looks tasty. You did everything right, and you had a lot of patience!

My absolute favorite IPA is Societe's The Pupil. They use Nelson Sauvin and Citra. It's absolutely delicious. I bet you will be very happy with whatever finished product the Nelson goes into when it arrives :)

    Simcoe/Citra IPA recipe critique

Yes. By throwing the dried bakers' yeast in the boil, the cell walls rupture and it acts as a nutrient for the live yeast that is pitched to the cooled wort. That's my understanding, anyway... 3 packets of bakers yeast was $1.29. Plus I made some spent grain bread with one of the packets...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm about to put some spent grain bread in the oven. I had no idea just how much of a mess that was going to add to my already messy brew day!

    Simcoe/Citra IPA recipe critique

This is how I figure my hop additions - least amount of hops (Levitation) goes in first, I work my way along to Ruination ;) My mom sent me these bottles for my birthday. They're no good for drinking beer out of, but they're great for hop additions. First time fly sparging!

Menards sells used appliances for $9

That's pretty amazing. Doesn't really seem worth their time. Maybe it's more cost effective to pick up appliances and resell them for next to nothing than to dispose of them?

    First batch taste test

Go ahead and try it. A few days in the fridge noticeably improves a bottle conditioned homebrew, in my very limited experience. It helps everything settle out and you end up with clearer, less yeasty flavored beer.

    Cool or Unusual bottle openers

This is my favorite. Worth every penny. I have a red shoelace and a Celebrator goat charm attached to it to make it easy to find in my kitchen knick-nack drawer.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing up a nice Simcoe/Citra IPA tomorrow, bottled up 5.5 gallons of wheat beer yesterday so my main fermenter is ready and willing to be filled ;)

    Autosiphon Sucking Air

I 2nd the hose clamps, though you probably just need one. Keep making small strokes with the autosiphon until the air pocket disappears. I have this problem as well. I'm going to get some hose that's a little smaller so it will fit more tightly on the end of the racking cane portion.

    Calling All Metal Fans

I just recently learned that Arch Enemy's vocalist is female. I had no idea. I'm not sure how to feel about it, but I'm still using them to fuel my intense gym sessions so it's all good :)
