    Texas Beers

Jester King isn't extremely widely available in the DFW area, but it's not scarce, either. Their website has a pretty good map on where you can find it.

    Revolver

Picked a 6-pack of Blood and Honey up at Kroger on Sunday night, along with some Lakewood Temptress. Really enjoying both of them!

    Texas Beers

Real Ale makes some really good stuff. I haven't had the Full Moon Pale Rye. I'll look for it next time I'm at the beer store, though!

    MoreBeer! Belgian Beer Trip Giveaway!

Saw it on my Facebook feed, didn't know you can enter once a day, though! I'll be entering every day. Been lucky enough to spend a couple of nights in Bruges a few years ago, would love to go back!!

    Reasons for starting home brewing?

I love beer, and I love experimenting. And like dryborough, I needed something other than staring at a PC to take my mind off work!

Can I reuse store bought bottles?

Same here. I told a tailgating buddy at the start of football season that I was collecting bottles to reuse, and every game after that, he had at least a 12-pack of Sam Adams to drink, and I went home with the empties.

    Texas Beers

Some other DFW area brewers that also have good beers are Community, Lakewood, and Deep Elum. I'm not a huge fan of the Franconia Lager, either, but I love their Dunkel.

    Texas Beers

What part of Texas is he in? That's going to drive what he has access to as far as some of the smaller craft breweries. I'd say at least one beer from the Spoetzl Brewery. Shiner Bock is the most popular of their beers, even thought it's not really a bock. Their FM966 Farmhouse Ale is one...

    2014 Winter Olympics

Mens' hockey started up yesterday, and the US, Russia, and Canada are all in action today. Russia and the US both started their games at 6:30am (Central) this morning, with Canada dropping the puck at 11:0am (Central). Russia had some early trouble with Slovenia, but look like they're going to...

I like free, especially when it has anything to do with beer!

Another first time brewer checking in.

This happened to me after my first batch. She immediately started looking at propane burners, and now I brew outside. I don't mind too much, but I haven't brewed on a hot Texas summer day yet. This weekend is looking like it's going to be perfect brewing weather!

    Pick one commercial brewery...

Couldn't have said it better myself. Of course, I will always have a soft spot for Shiner Bock. Love the FM 966.

    When to bottle

I do pretty much the same as NTX. It helps to have a few brews under your belt so you have something to drink in the meantime, and you're not as impatient to get your beer into bottles!

How much extract is too much?

I'm about to do a Double IPA using 11lbs of LME and just over a pound of specialty grains (10oz each of carapils and crystal 20L).

    More Beer Pliny Kit

I'm getting ready to do one based off an old Zymurgy article written by the owner of Russian River. https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/attachments/0000/6351/doubleIPA.pdf I messed with the hops a little to make it come out in even numbers, and subbed a couple of things in and out.
