I must brew a Sam Adams Octoberfest clone ASAP! Recipe Help!

I've never done a lager, but I've brewed several with the Wyeast German Ale yeast. It definitely needed several months to age. Once it did, it was a good mock. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    My brew rig

^^^ That! Great looking rig. I've been on the stove too for several years. Getting ready to make the jump to the garage with an electrical brewery. Tho, mine will not be that nice. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Recurring off flavor, part 2.

This. It could really be a number of things. Maybe your kegs need a thorough breakdown to be cleaned, maybe you need to clean your lines (tastes from other beers can linger in them), maybe it's your tank that's causing worry. But another could be aluminum oxide in your brew kettle. Having a...

    Why do you home brew?

Because the best beer is the one I pour my soul into. And my friends seem to agree. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    First Cider

I typically add it when I'm filling the carboy with juice, along with some sulphur, and wait an hour or two before pitching yeast. But I always use store bought juice. So maybe there is a difference. It'll be a little hard to add it after fermentation without oxygenating your cider. I guess if...

    Unicorn Blood

As a side note, I almost decided to add a little wine conditioner... I believe that's what a lot of the Commercial brewers do. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Unicorn Blood

I used Red Star Montrachet, so I doubt it would get much drier than it was. It had a very slight sweetness, but not sugary, slightly tart, and the apple flavor was there. Although, it was a little wine like. Will probably be crisper when carbonated. I'll post results after a week or two when I...

    Unicorn Blood

Bottled a batch of this today. I deviated from the original recipe a little. 4gal of apple juice, always save brand, 2x 32oz bottles of Black Cherry, 4x cans of frozen concentrate, and juice to top off the carboy. OG was 1.054, FG 1.002. Primed with 4oz Dextrose, and ended up with 52 12oz...

    Cheap ebay PIDs

Well, I tend to agree that it'll be weaker than I want. But honestly it's the only option I have at the moment. The wiring won't handle a larger breaker I don't believe. And the kitchen is off limits for a larger build. So I'm either stuck on the stove top, or I have room to grow in the garage...

    Cheap ebay PIDs

Yeah, as much as I believe I'll be loosing. But even still, if it takes it an hour to boil, I'd be ok with that. But quite frankly, I see 5gal going from 160-212 to be faster than 3.5gal from 68-212 on a stove top. So anyway you cut it it is an improvement. And I can always upgrade later. If I...

    Cheap ebay PIDs

5-7gal boils. I did the math, 68-165 it'll take about 45mins. 160-Boil it'll take about 35mins. I'm ok with that considering it'll take and hour on the kitchen stove for 3.5gal. I'd like I go higher in watts, but it's not in the cards. Where I'll be brewing , garage , only has a 30a breaker...

    Cheap ebay PIDs

Let me ask you a question then. I am thinking about going with duel 4500w elements for the boil kettle, run at 120v. Is it possible to run two SSRs of a single MyPin so that they both kick on at the same time? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Cheap ebay PIDs

I've been looking at upgrading my system for a while now, and moving from the kitchen stove to a electric system. So I have been comparing components and the advantages/disadvantages to them. Upon a quick google search for PID I ran across this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331324039787 Now I...

Welches Wine - 1.5yrs into it.

So, in the fall of 2012 twelve, I decided to do my first batch of Welches Wine. On this particular batch, I decided to do a Cranberry since thanks giving was in the near future, and I wanted to have it available for that time. And since this is drinkable within a month or two, I figured "why...

    BIAB Electric Brewing System

I would do the 44qt system if you're only wanting to do 5gal batches. No need in getting too big unless you can foresee yourself doing larger batches in the future. As a side note, I live in Tulsa, where High Gravity is based at. Dave knows me by first name whenever I go into the store. They...

Beginning my adventure into cheese making... (read: problem)

Won't be much researching. The store is Reasor's, and they do business with a lot of local farmers and the such. There won't be any way to tell. So I think I'm going to just have to try a different milk. And its weird, I get a ok break, but then it's milky just below the surface. And doesn't...
