    First go around with hops

Well, I pulled the trigger last week on some Cascade rhizomes from Austin Homebrew, I saw the add while schilling the forums. Bought four of them for about $6-7 a piece plus shipping. Well, they came in today. So I went down and bought a bunch of planting soil, some top soil, and some gigantic...

May have bought the wrong PT100...

Raven, that's a good point. But I already bought the other two. So like I said, I'm sure I can find some use for these. I found an adapter that the nut can barely fit into. I think I'm going to break out the muriatic acid and see if I can solder it into it. If it works, it should be interchangable.

What came in the mail for you today?

Oh, I forgot about the 4 Cascade rhizomes. Was a good boy and got them planted too.

Cost of Beer Kits vs Buying Bulk

You should look into buying 50lb sacks of two row. Then all you need is your hops and specialty grains, if you recycle your yeast that is.... One thing I do is when I pop a new smack pack is I pour a little into a starter, then pitch the rest into whatever beer I'm brewing. Once the starter is...

Cost of Beer Kits vs Buying Bulk

Even in buying a recipe at a time, a significant amount of money can be saved. I recently brewed a London Porter clone for my father. I spent about $35 in order to brew a 5gal batch. If you go to the store to buy it around here it will cost you about $50 a case. As long as you don't count your...

May have bought the wrong PT100...

Yeah, I figured I might as well order the 1/2" variant because they're waterproof. And I did, shortly after my last post. I'll figure out some way of using these. I'm going to need to figure out some type of adapter plug. From what I can tell, the m8 1.25 is similar to a 5/16 nps? If that is...

May have bought the wrong PT100...

Yeah, I saw those after a quick search, but I hate to have to order another set of RTDs if I might possibly be able to find an adapter, or bushing if you will... I think I will head down to the local (read: rural) hardware store during my lunch hour to see if I can see anything that may be of...

May have bought the wrong PT100...

Not sure if I have purchased the right equipment after having examined it a bit further last night. I recently purchased a couple of PT100 RTDs and some Thermowells from fleebay. Links are provided below. The RTDs have come in, but not the Thermowells. But after having looked at them I...

    Triac Controllers

I wouldn't be using that many amp. More like 13 amps. But, may still need to do that... What material did you use as a jumper? I would assume heavy guage wire...

What came in the mail for you today?

Today, it was this... Yesterday it was two weldless heater element kits, 6 bulkheads, two RTD sensors, and extra gaskets. Tomorrow, per UPS, it'll be a knockout punch set, two thermowells, and a 30qt bayou classic.... I guess you all know what I have planned for this weekend....

    Triac Controllers

I didn't mod the pcb. I plan on ventilating it and seeing how it runs. I mess with electronics as a hobby, so if I see a problem, I'll make the fix.

Figured I'd add another Porter to the mix.

Got the heat sink mounted. Now I just need to find a fan solution.

    Triac Controllers

Well, I got on the ball and started putting mine together. I'm wiring it for 120v, as it is really my only option right now. But conversion to 240v wouldn't be too hard, as most of the components are already rated for 240v... When/if I do go that route in the future I'll have to buy a 12x12x6...

    Triac Controllers

Yeah, and it probably wouldn't have as much of a problem with heat as a 240v build would be. I need to get back to work on this. I have most of the parts I need. 8x8x6 pvc junction box with two MyPin PIDs fitted, a digital ammeter, and this triac controller. I also have 2x dual 120 plugs fitted...

    Triac Controllers

Tegra, I don't know how I missed all your responses. I gave up on this particular application, along with building my e-brewing controller. Life got in the way, you know. I have though about repurposing these to 120, but if I'm not mistaken, I think there may be an issue with the POT on...

    Deformed corks...anyone else???

Yeah, I might. But I just hate spending $70-100 one a corker that I'll only use once or twice a year. Versus a capper that I use every couple of weeks...

I haven't found one that I've purchased. Just the blank sheets. The link is above. But as for a pan like what he described, no clue...

    Question about Fermentaion and bottling

Well, depending on your OG, the gravity could fall fast or slow. And a sorbets/metabisulfite combo does take time to kill the yeasties. I'm guessing this would be something you'd have to play with.
