    Brew Lab Sunderland UK

I have heard good things from multiple people. I tried asking on here but didn't get much of a response. Might have better luck on probrewer? If you have time between work/school/whatever I would recommend interning at a local brewery before you go. I had the opportunity to spend my summer...

    Brew Lab Sunderland UK

I would think it would definitely help. I was considering that program last year but ended up staying in Davis where I grew up for the UCD master brewers program. What I get from the brewers I have talked to is that a lot of the hiring decision is how well you get along with the rest of the...

    Stainless Stackable presurizable fermenters

Kegs stack pretty easily even without the keg stacker/ spacer thing. Especially if they are full. I would use 1/4 barrel kegs with no spear and a orange carboy caps hose clamped on top. With the carboy cap you could have them vented and still stack them without a spacer. Then just run all...

    Brewpub equipment

Sweet, that sounds like a really cool setup. Are you just going to fill kegs with gravity then have a bunch of keg couplers hooked only to gas in your cold box for carbonation? That plate chiller idea just made my plan a lot simpler. I was think of putting the conicals on wheels then rolling...

x2 ^^^^ How do you like the plastic conicals? Any specific reason you didn't just go all plastic?

Did I just ruin a fridge?

So its been running for a few days now the panel is frosted and on the opposite side of the box it is down to 40. I think I am going to rig up a little fan to move the air around while the compressor is running, hopefully that will cut down the run time on the compressor. I got some tap...

What would inspire someone to do that? Pretty sweet though

Did I just ruin a fridge?

Well I intended to not flush it and just go with it but I ended up kinda flushing it because I wasn't happy with one of the connections so I redid it. So it is pretty much not flushed, might have gotten a little air out but I doubt all that much. I thought about rigging my vacuum brake...

Did I just ruin a fridge?

Refrigerant $10 Dispenser and connector $15 Brass fitting for connector $4 25' of copper tube $22 So I bought about $50 in new parts and had all the tools and stuff around the house. If you don't already have a torch and that kinda stuff it would start to get expensive pretty fast. If...

Did I just ruin a fridge?

Got some more work done tonight. I put some trim on the coffin and test fit the hardware, still need to do a little more trim work but I ran out of wood. I found some slate laying around at my parents and am thinking about using it for the bar top. Still has a few hours left in it but its...

Did I just ruin a fridge?

Sorry the pictures really suck I will try to get some clearer ones soon. So you can actually see whats going on. Edit: New pictures added To fix the fridge I got some R134a and a dispenser with a gauge from walmart. The dispenser came with a quick connector with a schrader valve. Then I...

Did I just ruin a fridge?

So I got it up and running again, I ended up pulling out most of the coolant lines and replacing them. I built a new housing out of some old plywood and some 1.5" styrofoam insulation. I just finished putting on a layer of 1/4 plywood on it to clean it up. Hopefully tomorrow I can get some...

Did I just ruin a fridge?

So after doing a little more research and getting some stuff at walmart I am going to try to get it to work again. I figure $20 worth of stuff is worth a try and if it doesn't work then I will take it to the local community college. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the replys

Did I just ruin a fridge?

So I was pulling apart a SANYO 4433 to use the guts to make a bigger fermentation chamber/kegerator and right before I got it all out I bent and cracked a coolant line. Am I screwed and out a fridge or is there a way to fix it? I was reading a thread on here that someone mentioned you could...

    Increasing Flash Boiler Efficiency

I will give that a try, the wind was messing with the flame so it had to be on pretty high to stay lit, the flame was pretty high in the coils. When I get the burner in a solid mount it will be up in the tube a little and be blocked from the wind so I should be able to tune the flame better

    Increasing Flash Boiler Efficiency

I got to do a real test today and heated water from 57* to 183* fast enough to fly sparge. At 1/3 gpm the water is 147* so a little under 1/3 gpm to strike temp. I also tried to get it to make steam and it did with no issues, which I am pretty excited about. My mash tun struggles to hold heat...

    Increasing Flash Boiler Efficiency

I got a chance to do a quick test and got the water to 167* before it started pouring and I had to quit. I think once I get it all tuned it should be able to get the water to 180* for sparging which would cut my brewing time considerably. Because the test was cut short I did not get a chance...

    Increasing Flash Boiler Efficiency

Yeah it is just one in and one out now. If i could weld copper or stainless or braze I would have made a 4 coil one, but I can't. The whole project was kind of an experiment, not sure if it will produce steam but I don't think it will. I think the four to one is to increase the quantity of...

    Increasing Flash Boiler Efficiency

I would get a 50' piece of 3/8" copper tube (they run about $60 at home depot) a 10' piece of 3/8" braided pvc tubing like I am using, some hose clamps, a ball valve, and a piece of metal tube with about a 6" to 8" diameter. Bent the tube into a crazy coil which probably wont be pretty, I know...
