    Germelli1, they must have a pretty sorry track record if you were able to call it out exactly haha. Where do you go instead? Before moving out to DC I lived in Nashville, and the guys there at All Seasons garden and brewing were real friendly and helpful. So I'm not used to stuck-up attitudes...

    Thanks for the quick response. Why no crystal in a hefe? I got the recipe out of Brewer's Bible, made it once before and I think it turned out great. Although now that I look at my grain bag I remember that at the store they didn't have any crystal so the guy recommended caramel malt instead.

    I think you're probably correct, the airlock did have a ton on debris in it post blow-off. Thanks everyone for the input, I'll update this further down the line with how the beer turned out (or didn't as the case may be).

    Just started my first fermentation (Blood Orange Hefeweizen) a few days ago, and I know I'm going to have many questions down the road and want to do a lot of reading/learning about brewing, so figured it would be a good idea to get an account on these forums. Prost! :mug:
