    Cider Experiment

Cider morello cherry is a standard for me - 3lb or so of Morello cherries (the stuff in jars works well as long as it's just fruit, sugar and water - no preservatives) added to 5 gallons of apple juice in primary (not secondary).

    whats the difference?

If you were nearer the Buxton/Matlock end of Derbyshire I'd have recommended the HBS in Stockport (on the main A6 into Manchester) for equipment (but ring them first to check they have what you want). I haven't been in for at least 5 years but I know they're still going. Depends if you fancy the...

    EBAY question

I think the seller is confused about how paypal works. The money transfers from your paypal account straight away - either from funds in your paypal or a few days later by Direct Debit from your bank account etc. The seller then has the funds in his Paypal account. However if he then wishes to...

    Nazi Hops?

That seems a little strange! However I'd guess just about every piece of equipment/packing had the emblems on at that time though.

    whats the difference?

Obviously apples are out of season in the UK now so the only sensible option is to get down to a supermarket for juice. Pressed apple juice (i.e. not from concentrate) in cartons is available in just about all of them - you just need to look out for it. Average price at the moment seems about...

    whats the difference?

The better quality kits retail in the UK for over £11 for a 5 gal batch, and then you may need to add extra sugar. One of the best kits I've heard of retails at about £17 and needs no extra sugar. My last batch was pure apple juice (not from concentrate) and cost £16.79. I'm happier using...

    Top off the secondary?

It really depends on how long you intend to store the mead (and what type it is - ABV, Style etc) in secondary and how much head space you have. Any more clues?

The Purpose of Raisins in Wine Recipes

Dried raisins/sultanas/currants, etc are used with 'fruit/country wines' to provide 'body' but there's not enough tannin compared to a full grape wine for balance/aging. Use Tea if you must. Strong black English 'blended' cheap tea bags made into a cup per gallon is the way to go - no Tea...

Boudin Noir? A dirty French term for 'black pudding'!!!!!;) I don't eat meat anymore (for various reasons) but I can get a fantastic 'Veggie Boudin Noir' that tastes GREAT - just like the real thing.

    Used Camden's, Got Contamination

ski36t - As Pumbaa said cider can be a little 'strange smelling' when fermenting. Give us more clues as to why you think it's contaminated, It may not be. Apple juice/cider prices seem to have gone through the roof in the UK this year. This time last year I was buying cheap apple juice at...
