Did i just break my fridge? ARGGHH

Yeah.. I'm not taking it back.. never really had the intentions to... I'm not a huge fan of the big superstores either but only because they tend to put the mom and pop shops out of business and it is harder to find places that you can form a relationship with. The good news is that...

Did i just break my fridge? ARGGHH

ok.. so here is the deal.. I ran out this morning uber excited to sams club and bought a GE dorm/bar fridge to store my newly aquired keg and co2 tank. I bring it home.. put it in the office.. run some errands.. and come back i took measurements before I went to the store and decided that...

    Picture of First Brew..

i think it got as hot as 74 and i'm not exactly sure for how long.. maybe 6 hours.. I have the fermenter in a water bath wraped in a towel and i've been alternating putting a frozen 2-liter and milk jug in the bath to keep it cool. the majority of the ferment has been between 68 and 70 ws

noted.. but i guess it is a matter of preference. what is likely to happen to my nut brown if it is fermented too high? ws

    Picture of First Brew..

You bet! It should be bottled or kegged this weekend. I put it in primary sat around 2:00 and sunday night there was basically a steady stream of co2 screaming out of the airlock. I'll give an update early next week. hopefully the safale 04 yeast that came with the kit is less temp...

    Picture of First Brew..

Here is a photo of my first brew. A German Hefe Kit from MoreBeer.com Spent 17 days in primary and has been in bottles 13 days at this point. I started drinking them after 8 days in bottles and they were mostly carbed by then. Fermentation temps were a little high and explain the...

    Hydrometer reading

I think (i've only done it once) that the ABV forumla uses the difference of OG and FG. (OG - FG) * 131 = ABV or something like that so if OG and FG are both wrong .. but are wrong by the same amount in the same direction.. then ABV will be correct. wow.. that was the most math i've...

    Hydrometer reading

The gravity readings are affected by temperature and charlie's chart should give you the correct reading.. that being said.. (i'm guessing here, somebody correct me if i'm wrong) If you take the OG and FG readings at the same temperature then your ABV calculation should still be correct...

    refridgeration parts..

wow. probably a little more than I'm wanting to get into. the "hole-in-the-fridge" idea sounds kinda good now :) I'd probably just take the door off though. I think i'm gonna shelf this project for later on though. A small mini fridge in the office will probably be the best for now...

Help me spend my Birthday money!! :)

Thanks for the replies everyone.. I already have a propane burner and it is working great. Those were my thoughts about buying the chiller also.. i don't think i'd save much money and those are probably built very well and the connections will be reliable and the 90deg bends in the tubing...

Help me spend my Birthday money!! :)

It's fun spending somebody else's money right?? Here is the deal. I've got 200 bucks to spend and I think I know what I want to buy with it but I'd like some opinions.. Currently I'm an extract brewer doing 5 gallon batches and I don't see that changing anytime in the near future. I...

    refridgeration parts..

i hear ya.. I was hoping that maybe there was some sort of kit out there that would allow you to replace all the refrideration components for a unit that I could buy and apply to my situation. I'm fairly handy but don't much want to get too deep into the workings of refridgeration systems...

    refridgeration parts..

Question... Where can I find all of the parts to make a refridgerator with the exception of the actual box. I have an old peice of furniture that i'd like to turn into a bar and I'm hoping that I can work a fridge for my kegs and taps into it. any ideas? anyone done anything like...

    newby Question, fruit beer

I know there are mixed opinions about The Brewing network here but I kinda like them so I'm gonna post a link to one of their shows. Jamil Zainasheff (if you aren't sure who he is) has won the Homebrewer of the year award a ton of times and basically just knows his sh!t. He does a...
