How do I drink my beer??

this is the beginner's forum right?? :) ok ok.. so i actually already know how to drink my beer.. but.. here is my issue I have a keg at room temp (about 70deg) that has had about 30 lbs of CO2 pressure on it for a couple of weeks. (it is a porter) I'd gotten a little ahead of...

    First Label Ever..

yeah.. i had someone else suggest that i put my name or something on it.. i still need a brewery name but once i figure that out it'll probably make it on there. i really just wanted something simple to put on bottles as gifts. I think this has done the job. i'm sure in the future i'll...

    how leaky is too leaky..

thanks guys.. this is actually a rebuilt keg from morebeer.com... first time it's been used. maybe they'll send me a new o-ring for that post. i'm going to the HD today anyway and will pick up the suggested socket anyway.. i did do the soap test and man the leak is small.. not too long...

    how leaky is too leaky..

Ok.. i know.. no leaks at all .. but... I just racked my third brew into my keg. (first time to keg a brew) I've put pressure on it and set the regulator to around 30lbs (it's not cooled.. probalby around 70 deg) well... i can hear an ever so faint hiss coming from the top.. and i...

    Wheat to add head retention

It very well may.. i don't know.. I was just always under the impression that the suspended yeast was what made the beer cloudy.. but for the record.. i could very well not know what in the world i'm talking about.. somebody bail me out here :) ws

    Wheat to add head retention

is the haze in wheat beer from the wheat or the low floccuation of the hefeweizen yeast that is generally used? I'm not sure.. just asking.. I did however brew a hefe as my first brew.. it was 100% Wheat DME and used a white labs hefe yeast.. it's clear in the bottle unless i swrill...

    Batch size...

wow.. I'm not suprised that 5gal is in the vast majority but I think I am a little suprised that there aren't more 10 gallon brewers.. seems with all the keggles and cornies floating around that 10 gallons would be a more popular size. I guess fermentation space and carboys are whats holding...

    Co2 In the fridge?

never done it myself (in fact my track record with fridges is rather poor at the moment) but i've seen many many pictures of fridges with CO2 tanks inside them. I think the main reason for putting it ouside is just to make more room inside. there may be others but i'm not aware of them if...

    Batch size...

What size batches do you brew most consistantly? round up or down.. I'm assuming that most folks brew in 5 gallon increments.. just curious.. thats all

    ARGGGGG! Not enough bottles

Yes.. you can use the plastic PET bottles.. they work just fine. I like to use one with each batch so I can see it and I can tell how well it is carbonating by squeezing the bottle. hope the leg heals up soon! Will

    How stupid does this sound?

I had a similar question posed a little while ago about a piano.. :) one of the replies suggested building the cooling box and then getting a small small fridge and cutting a hold in the side (i think simply removing the door would be better) and putting it in the cooling box. they make...

    Outdoor Turkey Fryer /Burners

I have a 30 qt aluminum turkey fryer rig that i've done 3 batches in. the shape of the turkey fryer pots (from what i can figure out) aren't ideal for brewing.. the reason being that being tall and skinny there isn't as much area on top of the wort for the hot break and foamy mess to...

What other forums do you visit?

I get made fun of here at home by the wife and friends (jokingly of course) because I have these rotating obsessions that seem to always come with fantastic help from forums just like this. I'm a computer programmer at work so that explains some of them also.. http://beginnertriathlete.com...

    Pitching onto Yeast Cake Question

wow... LOONG brewing/bottling session. If i'd planed out my moves ahead of time i probably would have been better off. Woke up this morning and my rigged up blowoff tube was "glug, glug, glug, glug.. ing" had plenty of room till the top of the carboy. life is good! ws

    Pitching onto Yeast Cake Question

Did i just break my fridge? ARGGHH

Thanks for all the replies.. applause and concern.. I guess it should emphasize that it was a "pssst" sound... not a "psssssssssssssst" sound super short. also.. all of the advice on cleaning the crack and such probably won't work. the fridge is brand new out of the box and I haven't...
