    Looking for recommendations, WI/Midwest brews?

The Big Eddy imperial IPA is def. worth buying. 1/2 craft or not, do yourself a favor.
  2. squeekybobo

    What are you drinking now?

Leinenkugel's Big Eddy Imperial IPA. So dang tasty!

My son created swamp water stout.

+1 to this... I've got 4, and I think I could get at least a case of decent beer per kid... :mug:

    Can this pot be saved?

If it's aluminum, make sure you boil a load of water in it at least twice to build a good oxide layer. After it's cleaned of rust, that is. Then make sure you don't use anything too abrasive to clean it after you've built a good oxide layer (oxide=not shiny aluminum). Correct me if I'm wrong...

    all grain brewing supplies questions

+2 on Midwest. They are my LHBS, and they've always been super helpful with anything I've asked them.

Is a cheap grain mill worth it?

Customer - "this beer tastes like piss" bartender - "because we piss in it!" El Mariachi ftw

What to expect for my first AG

+10 to this. It's all a learning process, and a fun and tasty one at that :-)

What to expect for my first AG

I'm tired out after reading that... You sound like you've got a decent handle on things. First off, I'd try not to worry too much about your efficiency too much, or else you'll be obsessed with it and get bummed if you don't hit all your numbers. I just did my second all grain. My first, I was...

Great quote from Palmer on Mash Efficiency

Efficiency, PH, etc. it's all about making a beer that you like, one that your friends and family say "that's really good!" about. I'm brewing better beer now that I've stopped worrying about things :-)

Brewed and sitting in carboy. Smells awesome!

Is this Equipment Kit a good deal for $90?

I vote Midwest groupon if it's available. That's how I started out over a year ago. I've since upgraded to better bottles (glass scares me), converted a cooler for mash tun, and a 15 gallon kettle...

3 FLoyds Zombie Dust attempt. Help/info requested

Brewing this one up AG tomorrow night. Using s-04 yeast. Any last minute suggestions or possible pitfalls? I milled the grains at the LHBS myself, and since their crush has been suspect in the past, I milled the 2 row twice. Batch sparging as well.

whatever happened to the homebrew shop?

I'm lucky in that Midwest is my LHBS, with Northern Brewer being a few miles further. I find MW's prices I be a bit better anyway. Not trying to brag or anything...

Brewing Solo vs. Brewing with a partner(s)

I've brewed mostly with other people that haven't brewed before. Kind of like a homebrew evangelist. I got my dad brewing with me sometimes because he was interested in trying it out (plus, he bought a lot of the equipment to share with me). Another buddy who'd brewed before has benefited from...

    First all grain for me...

I'm suspicious that both my OG and FG readings were off. I kegged 5 gallons of this on Saturday, dry hopping in the keg. After 3 pints, I'm not feeling like it's less than 6% abv... :drunk:

    best prices for coolers

I held a steady mash temp of 150 for an hour, only losing maybe 1 degree. Ambient temp outside was about 50F. It might be intro line, but it works for me...

    best prices for coolers

Target - 52qt cooler for $20. Or check Craigslist.

    First all grain for me...

endosperm... Eww. If I wanted that in my beer, I'd go BMC... ;-)

    First all grain for me...

    Thought, not bought. Stupid iPhone...

    First all grain for me...

It's entirely possible that my hydrometer isn't calibrated. I will have to calibrate it. There's another 5 gallons in primary right now that didn't get kegged yet. I'll calibrate the hydrometer prior to taking that reading... I bought 1.004 was pretty low, but wasn't too sure.
