    Looking for grain miller

I second the ugly junk thread. I picked up a corona style mill from Discout Tommy via Amazon for $20. Added an aquarium pump for $6 to get free shipping on all if it. :-). Works great, too.

To use or not to use 1st year hops?

Awesome! Brewing with them tonight then!

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

You could pitch 2 or 3 packs of Us-05 for the price of liquid yeast. Otherwise, you could build up a starter with one vial. There are ways :-). Buy the hops in bulk instead of in 1oz increments. With the 2012 season, centennial pellets should be available soon, same with citra. Check out...

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Well, you'd up the 2row a bit to push up the abv, ad add a few more ounces of centennial and a couple ounces of citra, plus more dry hop of cent/citra from what I understAnd. Me, I'm almost afraid of having 5 gallons of that on tap :-)

Kettle - Go expensive, or go cheap?

I went from a 7.5 gallon aluminum pot to a 15 gallon SS pot with ball valve and another port for a thermometer for $100. Thanks to a member of my brew club. My suggestion is watch Craigslist for someone selling either a keggle or a larger SS pot for cheap. Spike brewing does have some good...

To use or not to use 1st year hops?

Got about 10 oz. of hops from my first year Columbus plant this year. At brew club last night, someone told me I shouldn't use grown hops until the third year. Anyone agree or disagree with this?

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Just got home from a homebrew club meeting. I brought a bomber of this one with. Rave reviews, including "this is the best ruination clone I've ever tasted". The bomber I used was a Ruination 10th anniversary bottle, and several people swore I bought this at the store. Next time, I'll be doing...

First batch of Homebrew ever. Has it been compromised?

Addiction for sure. As soon as I put my batch into the fermenter, I'm planning on what my next batch will be.

What's with those home brew shops?

+1 I was kicked outside because the wife doesn't like the smell. She's insane, it smells like heaven. I love brewing in the garage. Easier to clean up the mess, and I can turn up the tunes while the kids are asleep, since brewing at night makes the wife happy that I'm available on the weekend...

First All Grain, OG a Bit Under

while this may be generally true, my last batch I got about 80% efficiency, and I only batch sparge :-)

    What's your Redneck name?

    Buck Jackson... Could be worse

Lot of questions from pretty new brewer

My Columbus 1st year thrived in all the heat we had this summer. I got about 10oz. Wet hops. My cascade grew a little, but produced very little. My centennial was pathetic, but maybe next year it will flourish. I wasn't expecting much from the first year anyways.

Belgian Blond Ale SWMBO Slayer - Belgian Blonde

I lied. Got into it later that night. Brought some to some friends tonight, an they wanted to buy some from me. I told them its illegal, but they can buy the grains next time and I'll brew it for them :-)

    How do you kettle hop?

Hop spider FTW! I love mine!

    What got you into homebrewing?

I always wanted to try brewing my own beer. I saw a groupon for Midwest that had a starter kit and ingredients kit a little over a year ago. I bought it on a whim, and have since gone all grain after 5-6 extract batches and made some amazing beers since. Now enjoying a Stone Ruination clone AG...

Rookie mistake costs me cash. :(

Ouch... I'm guessing you'll be cooling the wort down before pouring into a carboy from now on... I've never used a glass carboy, I chose to go with the better bottles. I'm too clumsy for glass. I suspect that would have been a melty pile of mess if you were doing that.

    Noob looking for advice

Sounds like you made beer. My first batch, I was paranoid as all hell and it still turned out. I didn't care for it much, but it was an Irish red, and I've figured out that's a style I don't care for. The reviews from people who tried it were good, though.

3 weeks in primary. Beer tastes awful.

Let it ride... Let it sit 3-4 weeks in the bottle before declaring it horrid. It may turn out awesome! I've had a few IPAs that tasted nothing but bitter before racking to secondary or bottling, then tastes great after mellowing out a few weeks.
