Squeezing wort out of grains/hops - bad idea?

I think this is another myth that needs to be busted or confirmed....where are the brew mythbusters?

    Confused by Fermentation

Did the airlock have enough liquid in it? Was it a 3 piece or "S" tube? If a 3 piece does not have enough liquid in it air can pass right through without causing movement.

    LHBS in Wichita Kansas?

I drop off recycling every saturday @ the local centers, sometimes I can spot cornys in the Stainless Steel bin. They sell them for usually $1-2/pound, equates roughly to $9 per keg at the low end, maybe check at those types of places if you have them local!

I'm from Manhattan and went to whats brewing once, can't say I was too impressed, they have stuff, but definitely doesn't seem like they care about their products at all. +1 for a store in manhattan!!

Extract Recipe for a Black IPA

I personally would stick with de-bittered black malt, caramel 40-60 and light malt extract. I would NOT use black patent! Ive had a BIPA that had black patent in it and it COMPLETELY covered up the hops, tasted like ink. I would also not use the "darker" malt extract. And Ive never used...

    First pilsner

Pitch plenty of yeast and pitch it at fermenting temps. Diacetyl rest at room temp for a couple days, then lager.

    Another Noob Kegging Question

It's not going to carb if its off pressure, unless of course you added priming sugar when you kegged it. Let the full keg sit @ 30 psi for a day or so and it'll be carbed, or like Yooper said 10-14 days at a lower PSI.

    Anyone make an Oak beer?

I used a couple toasted oak spirals (from northern brewer) in an imperial stout(OG 1.088). Turned out awesome! Mine sat on Oak and a couple vanilla beans for 9 months, and I'm glad I did it.

questions about adding vanilla to a milk stout

I would start out with a half a bean, cut up into small chunks (in vodka)and ramp up from there. I put 2 beans in a 1.084 Wee heavy and vanilla is almost overwhelming! http://www.beanilla.com/madagascar-vanilla-beans-p-28.html Skip the extract!

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

This method looks a little easier than normal AG. Anyone ever just dunk the spent grain bag in another already heated kettle with water to do a quick partigyle? Seems like if you had an extra kettle you could just boil that one while you are finishing up the first batch.
