With three legs and four hands . . . so I grab one leg, other person grabs another leg, and we both hold hands on the third leg? Seems possible, just really awkward. One set of hands would be higher than the other, and just weird. I think I'd be better off carrying the CF5 than the kettle...

Not while still being able to use the YB in a vertical position and getting a mason jar under it to dump into. I already own a riptide, so if I have to use it I can. But I can't find a way that makes sense to use it: 1. Get 75 feet of tubing to pump direct from the kettle to the fermenter...

Whatever came with the Spike kit. I didn't change a thing, just took it out of the box and sanitized it. https://spikebrewing.com/collections/conical-accessories/products/closed-pressure-transfer-kit I'm not sure this is feasible. I'd have to travel 1. over ~20 feet of hardwood floors (not...

I'm not sure I understand. Why would not using the handles be less akward than using the handles? If you don't use the handles, how would you pick it up with two people? Why not use the kind with the straps? Carboy Carrier - Brew Hauler | MoreBeer No need to cut anything. Don't know if it...

Inbetween the hose and the swivel nut. Right where the clamp is. New video For the gas post, it's also leaking a little bit at the swivel nut connection to the QD. Normally I'd disassemble and wrap with PFTE tape and wrench it back on, but considering the leak at the hose itself was 10x...

I'm re-reading the entire thread, on page 47 currently, making headway but it takes a while. A ton of information to digest in this thread. Thanks to all who contributed. I pulled the trigger on a CF5 a few weeks back. Picked up the carb stone, racking arm, pressure transfer kit, and a spare...

    SS passivation a myth?

. . . Or John Palmer But whatever. Put your faith in what you read on a forum about what NASA does if that's what moves you. Or Google "times NASA was wrong." Last I checked, your kettle wasn't sending anyone into orbit.

    SS passivation a myth?

It contains Oxalic acid. "To passivate stainless steel at home without using a nitric acid bath, you need to clean the surface of all dirt, oils and oxides. The best way to do this is to use an oxalic acid based cleanser "...

Ditto. I feel bad enough for my chest freezer in there. I couldn't imagine a glycol chiller trying to handle those kind of temps.

Ditto. Went ahead and ordered the Amazon sight glass and NorCal 2"x2" brink (plus a thermowell, as it was cheaper than Spike's).

Actually the 2"x2" yeast brink ($50). Of course you'd still need to get the appropriate clamps, end cap, and seals, but I get your point.

Safety aside (assuming it is safe) were you in the market for a yeast brink, would you rather: 1) Spend $160 on a sight glass yeast brink (Yeast Brink - 2), that you could use as a regular sight glass when not "brinking" (yes, I did that), or 2) Spend $110 on a mason jar yeast brink (2), and...

You could probably use valve stem packing as a replacement CF lid gasket if you needed to. PFTE too. It likely wouldn't be cheap though. PTFE Valve Stem Packing - Equalseal.com You'd be better off wrapping the CF lid gasket in PFTE thread tape though, if you're really concerned about the...

I thought they were meant to hold negative pressure, not positive pressure. I don't have a clue if that matters though. Although it reminds me of a futurama episode. I've heard that before. Although in the past I heard that the rim of the JAR broke off before the body exploded, not that the...

That was my concern. Honestly, I'm moving from glass carboys due to the "glass danger" inherent in doing pressure transfers. So I can't imagine going to a conical and then jumping right back into the same arena with a glass yeast brink.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

That's what's pointless. Without a racking arm, I'd have to dump 3x (rough number) the amount out the bottom in order to get the same clear beer I could get if I had the racking port without the racking arm. Dump, wait for yeast to settle in cone, dump, wait for yeast to settle, dump, wait for...

Can anyone help me decide between the Sightglass Yeast Brink (Yeast Brink - 2) and the Mason Jar Yeast Brink (2 )? I'm not sure how comfortable I feel about exposing a mason jar to pressure, so I'm leaning toward the Sightglass yeast brink. Plus, if I get the sightglass yeast brink, and put a...
