    Grainfather!!

According to the amazon page, the large size ones DO have a hole in the middle, but those answers are kind of old so probably disregard my statement.

Inkbird ITC-308 Dual Stage Digital Temp Controller Giveaway

Hey AWESOME! You guys ROCK!

    Grainfather!!

I use PBW, though from what I gather its basically oxyclean with a few other things in it. There's some threads around here about it, can't remember where though. As far as the hops go I toss them right in. So far I haven't made anything TOO hoppy and clogs I've had so far (the spring under the...

    Grainfather!!

As far as the ramping up goes, yes, it did get quicker. It took 10 minutes to go from my start temp of 150 to my step 2 temp of 154, however, I also had set it up go up to 158, 162, and finally 170 for mashout. The other times took 5 minutes, 2 minutes and 4 minutes. For sparge, I doubled...

    Grainfather!!

So mashing up a beer right now using the connect app, the controller gets to within 2 degrees then powers the element WAY down, and it takes forever to get that last 2 or so degrees. It won't start the timer for the next phase until it has hit the temperature it has been set to. In the future...

    Grainfather!!

Heh, funny you ask that, as I was just playing around with the app last night. I haven't really used it to brew with yet. Had to sign up for an account on the GF website then make a recipe there. My phone didn't want to download the recipe I had made, I ended up restarting the app a few times...

    Why always bourbon?

I remember seeing a truck the other day advertising for some sort of distilled beverage (can't remember if it was whisky or what) that was aged in barrels that had been used to ferment IPAs. Now I wish I remember what it was so I could try it.

    CO2 inflation?

That's a bit further of a drive for me, but for that price it might be worth it. So far the only time I've had a tank filled up here was at Alienman in Waunakee it was $20 for a 5#. Currently in the process of ordering a 10# tank and I'll see how much they charge for that.

    Grainfather!!

What I did was heat my sparge water to about 180 f in the GF first, then used the pump to put it in a pot which I then moved to the stove and put a lid on and and periodically turned on the heat to low. Was still 170ish by the time I needed it. As far as those clicks, I get them too. Definitely...

    Grainfather!!

Uhg, this brew his been cursed so far. Its a kit I got for Christmas, partial mash. Had about 5 potential brew days end up not doing it due to something else getting in the way, then had the mishap with the GF. And now I think I have myself 2nd degree burns on my foot when the end of the hot...

    Grainfather!!

A bit of good news it seems it started working again, not sure what the heck happened. I unplugged it pushed the reset a few dozen more times, and flicked the other switch a few times. Now I have to figure out how to get the wort back into it as I already put it in another pot for boiling. Good...

    Grainfather!!

I'll try to take one, but now it seems my heating unit just died. I was just starting a boil and the temperature started dropping. I pumped out enough to be able to tip it to reset the switch on the bottom (seems like a bad place for that) the button felt really 'loose' and even after pressing...

    Grainfather!!

I think a part of my Grainfather broke today during my second use. I'm not 100% though, i'm searching through online photos trying to see if there's a piece of rubber that goes around where the pot meats the base. I can't seem to find a picture close enough to see if that's where it broke off...

    Grainfather!!

Well you can add me to the list of GF owners. Finally got tired of my bag in a cooler method. Had some reflectix left over so I used it to make a jacket. Single layer except for cut a small bit that runs outside the recirc pipe. I'll see how it does and might put on a second layer. Ran the wash...

    Sous Vide BIAB

Neat. I had thought about doing something like that, only without the continuous heat. Just add a bunch of water to +1 my desired mash temp to the cooler, heat strike water to normal put the pot in the water, mash in and throw a blanket over the top. I like your idea better though! :mug:

How long are unmilled grains good for?

Give it a shot. I recall reading somewhere they should be good for quite some time(years). Worse case scenario is you have to dump it. So throw the grain out now, or throw the beer out later? At least if you brew it you gave it a chance. Maybe someone who stores grain longer than I (I'm at about...

    Zero carbonation after 3 weeks?

When I bottled same thing would happen to me, anything I crashed and drank that night would 'PFFT' but be flat. If I crashed and then gave a night in the fridge it would be better, and after two nights better yet.
