    Cooking Oil vs Fermcap

I've never noticed a problem when I use the defoamer but I've never done a side by side. I should have split this batch and did it with oil, defoamer, and nothing but I don't have the set up to do it so it will be up to some degree of interpretation.

    Cooking Oil vs Fermcap

Ok, going with canola oil. It's the most neutral oil I have. @Azura said about 1 tsp for 5 gals so I scaled to 3 tsp since I'm doing a half barrel. There's going to be about 19 gallons in a 22 gallon tank. Usually, the defoamer handles this with not stirring or spraying. Defoamer for...

    Cooking Oil vs Fermcap

Interesting. I use five-star defoamer 105. I'm brewing now and I was about to add it. I'll sub a vegetable oil and see how that works. I'm making a Japanese style adjunct lager so if it kills the head it won't be a big deal. Also, there won't be a lot of room for an off flavor to hide. I'm off...

12 Beers of Christmas 2018 Edition

I haven't brewed yet, but I've been messing with tasting herbs and spices that I steep to prep for the gruit. I like the gruit base recipe, but I want to tweak the the herbs and spices while still keeping with the gruit concept. Do I have to stay with moshers recipe or am I free to tweak the...

Stout tanks has the option to put bottom drains on their tanks. I had it done on mine.

    Bestest Oktoberfest lineup

I suspect the answer is 'it depends on a lot of variables', but you could always move them and add gelatin. That would clear them in 24 hours or so. Edit: Just to add, that's a really solid lineup...

    Easy Wheat Malting (Picture Guide)

Strange that you got chits but no sprouts. Did it start to smell sour at all during the process? Was it kept at a good room temperature? The only time I've gotten chits but not sprouts are when I drowned the wheat cause I soaked it too long. When you try again, try doing shorter soak and drain...

What does wheat malt look like?

Should look like this: If it's got a hull it probably is barley.

    Tequila inspired ale

That sounds close. I think I usually use a whole bottle but that's for 15 gallons.

    Tequila inspired ale

Last couple summers, I've made a simple light lager recipe then added a healthy dose of anejo. I like the combo, it addes an oaky tequila kick at the end to an otherwise light thirst quenching beer.

    Beer will not clear..

How much beer did you run off after the gelatin? If they gelatin dropped a bunch of stuff you may need several pints to clear it out.

Wow, 63 year old wheat! I'll be very interested to see how it goes.

How often do you brew a lager?

Same here. Virtually every beer I make is a lager.

Closed CO2 transfer from Chronical to half barrel through sanke coupler.

I missed one other part of your post. After you remove both check valves, it would be beer out of fermenter into the beer side of the coupler and your gas line into your bucket of starsan. Hope that makes sense.

Closed CO2 transfer from Chronical to half barrel through sanke coupler.

You will need to remove the check valves from the sanke coupler. This will allow beer to flow into the keg. I got tired of removing and replacing it so I bought a cheap coupler, removed it, and just keep it on standby for this purpose This picture might help...
