    Pilsner for Wheat Malt substitute?

So, I hate traditional wheat beers, but years ago I stumbled my way into a couple hundred pounds of wheat. I malted it and since I don't like wheat beers, I subbed it for pilsner in a lot of lagers and wouldn't have known the difference if I hadn't known. So, I imagine you can go then other way...

    Heating element on for 15sec.

Clean it up and it should be fine. If I recall correctly, @passedpawn, fires his dry intentionally till it's red hot after every brew to clean it with no ill effect.

    What coupler type is this?

Looks like a D. Those ridges are for inserting a tool to take the coupler apart. Here's one of mine for comparison.

    new o-ring same problem...

You could try putting a little petroleum jelly on the gasket. It's food grade and you probably wouldn't actually get any into the beer anyways. I've used it on loose blow off hose connections to good effect. Just a thought, though for 20 bucks I'd just get a new one since she's had a good life.

Roofer took over my side yard

My neighbor had a contractor doing some landscaping work done a few weeks ago. The contractor came over and asked if he could use my property to access the neighbor's yard with some heavy equipment. Sure. They took down my fence and moved some huge bulldozers and dump trucks in. Not only did...

House paint that doesn't suck? Home restoration.

What's your application method? I repainted my stucco and wood house last summer. I tried rolling and then used a high quality sprayer. The quality went way up when I used the sprayer. I used Glidden, but since I went darker I didn't prime. Good luck. I hate painting but was pleased when it was...

    Viking malts

This is 97% viking pilsner and 3% 10L Munich. Tastes great, even better than when I used other pilsner malts, I think, but it does seem a touch darker. I usually add the Munich to add a bit of maltiness and make it a touch darker, I'd forgo it next time since I think I got both from the pilsner...

    Sparkling Water

https://blog.khymos.org/2012/01/04/mineral-waters-a-la-carte/ This blog has a spreadsheet that will help you calculate additions to clone your favorite brand. I've used it with fairly good results. I got tired of measuring it out and when I got my water report, I found my tap water wasn't too...

    RO Question

I'm looking at putting an RO system under my kitchen sink and running a line to the brewery in the adjacent garage. Seems like it would work, but should I put a tee after the filter and before the pressure tank to run ronwater to the brewery, or after the pressure tank but before the little...

    A Particularly Pernicious Pressure Problem

There is only one check valve between the two guages, system is not active and everything is fully carbed or otherwise isolated. I ordered a new low pressure guage. I suspect that one of them is funky. New guage should be here tomorrow.

    A Particularly Pernicious Pressure Problem

I encountered a quirk with my pressure guage while tinkering the kegerator. I put a low pressure guage on the end of my 8 tap gas manifold. With the pressure on the low pressure regulator on the tank at 18 the guage on the manifold reads 6. All line lengths and diameters are fairly nominal. I...

    Burner fizzling out?

Check the gas orifices and the propane connection. Little spiders love to crawl in there and clog up the works.

kettle size for 10 and 20 gallon batches

Hm, maybe a kettle from stout or similar? They tend to be tall and narrow. My 20gal stout tank will do 5 to 15.5 finished batches so maybe the next size up would do 10 up to 20.

Whirlpooling practices - how do you do your whirlpools

How long do you whirlpool? -I pump it through the tangential return for 15 minutes then turn it off and let it sit for 15 minutes Do you keep stirring the wort to keep the whirlpool going while it is draining? Would there be value in this? -No, I've found that without the rest time, I don't...
