Delay between 0' hop addition and start of chill?

I add them when I turn the element off then I turn on the pump to whirlpool for 15 mins then turn the pump off and let it sit for 15 mins then cool.

Alternative idea for mailing beer, traveling, etc...

Out in my neck of the desert everyone carries around hyrdroflasks or similar containers with water. This has been just great for me and my alcoholism. My wife just has to remind the kids not to drink from Daddy's 'water' bottle.

Yeah, I've been reading a bunch about the bigger biab setups and found it kind of intriguing. It was definitely in the back of my head as a possiblity when I bid on this sucker.

Not a 100% sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but I picked up an open head 55 gallon stainless steel drum at auction for $35 dollars. Hm maybe an enormous BIAB setup?

    Adding lime juice to beer

I'll admit that sometimes when it gets crazy got here I like to put a little lime in my lager. I've tried to do it to a whole keg and the flavor is never right. So, the best way to do it is to pour a beer, slice a lime, and introduce the two. You'll have the best results this way. If it's...

When to replace silicone hoses? Do they go bad?

...and can involve some clean up. Yup, done it.

    Brewing outside... and bugs

I'm currently experiencing a plague like fly problem, but they don't seem to go near the boil kettle. Not sure if its the heat or the updraft but they seem the swarm around but not over. I have a pre-chiller filter and I have never seen a fly in it, so there must be something to it.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Sounds late. I don't do late brews. I like to start early instead. Though technically, I don't to most of the early part. I set it up before bed and when my son wakes up to tend to the animals at 5:30 he starts the system and adds the grain. By 7 when I'm coffee'ed and up I'm already half way...

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Anyone ever use pear wood for pipes? Ive seen them for sale but haven't tried it. A guy offered me some decent pear wood for a meat goat but not sure about it...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

I brewed an Oktoberfest today and threw some ribs on the smoker this'd morning. About 2 hours out from the rib. I cleared a section of mesquite off the property yesterday. Shockingly, I opted to use mesquite wood for the ribs. A guy was selling mangos at a dollar a case, so I made mango BBQ...

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Yeah along the same lines, I tried to make a thin walled small billiard and hit a run of sand pits. I got it to work but the shank isn't square to the bowl now so it's been sitting in the drawer. I could probably turn a bit to make it look ok but that isn't something I've done yet. It would...

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

I think an apple. Its got a chunk out of the top and bottom I have to incorporate but it should work out. I wanted to make a poker but the wood didn't go along with it. Cut the $%& out of myself while shaping it after the picture. I've been carving and whittling since I was a kid and this is...

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Started another one. Wife also approved growing tobacco for next year. It will have to be limited to the a garden. The downside of living in the desert is I've got 15 acres of land but I can pretty much just grow cactus and buffalo grass.
