Opinions on my Citra IPA recipe before i brew

I think it sounds good? I'm brewing something kinda similar (hop-wise) soon, I would think they would go together well. Here's what I am doing: HOME BREW RECIPE: Title: Vienna SMaDH Brew Method: All Grain Style Name: American Pale Ale Boil Time: 60 min Batch Size: 6.25 gallons (fermentor...

Help with AG Dead Ringer clone - no hop aroma

Has anyone suggested oxidation? Oxidation can darken the beer and will dramatically reduce hop aroma. I have trouble with it.

Kettlehouse Cold Smoke Scotch Ale Recipe?

Just as an update - the beer turned out extremely super delicious. I ended up getting 70% efficiency instead of 60%, still hit the FG target, so it was closer to 6.5% ABV. I had a party and people destroyed it. A++ would brew again.

Best way to add coffee to IPA

I can't answer all of your questions but I was thinking about doing something similar and I decided I'd try using a "blonde" coffee like what Starbucks produces - do a cold brew and it shouldn't add much caramel / Maillard flavor at all, and keep the color almost completely intact.

GE 7 CF (FCM7SUWW) keezer conversion

Ah, ok. So those that have installed one as a replacement for the stock control knob at the front are also looping a thermistor wire around somewhere too?

GE 7 CF (FCM7SUWW) keezer conversion

I apologize if this question has been covered already or is stupidly obvious, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I've got this fridge with no customizations other than using a Johnson Controls temperature controller with the thermocouple snaked in the back to keep it at fridge temps. I'm...

    Help with my Stir Plate

I would like to point out that computer fans are designed to run at 12V DC, but each fan is different in regards to what RPM it puts out at that rating. Basically, just because your fan works fine at 5V doesn't mean it's a good voltage for all fans. Mine, for instance, was a low RPM fan to begin...

If you haven't... try using gelatin... OMG

I'm pretty sure that dry hopping after the gelatin step is still going to result in hazy beer. A lot of the haze comes from dry hopping.

English (kinda) IPA - looking for critique

Thanks, I'll check those out. I'm going to try the step mash, I assume that's not particularly more error prone than a single infusion. And yeah, it's gonna be bitter. I made another IPA that was similarly bitter but replacing the nelson / mosaic with just Amarillo and I liked it, but I always...

Kettlehouse Cold Smoke Scotch Ale Recipe?

I just remembered how much I loved this beer when traveling through Missoula and this thread was extremely helpful. I'm going to brew it next Tuesday with the following recipe (pasted from the Brewers Friend calculator). I decided I wanted to try and tone it down in ABV a bit but I want to keep...

English (kinda) IPA - looking for critique

I'm basing my choice off of articles like this and the fact that Firestone Walker supposedly uses WLP002 as their house strain and gets beers with good attenuation. If you think that's incorrect, can you suggest a different English Ale yeast that will give me better attenuation? I'm not brewing...

English (kinda) IPA - looking for critique

Thanks! I'm just going to hope it's not bad, but I'll be the first to say you were right if it turns out the other way. That FG number is from the brewer's friend calculator assuming average attenuation from the WLP002. My understanding is that a healthy pitch rate and lower mash temp will...

English (kinda) IPA - looking for critique

Thanks. I've found that I'm not sensitive to the "cat piss" smell at all so I'm not to worried about that, but in any case I think Mosaic is a bit more subdued in that regard than Simcoe. 3L is definitely larger than it needs to be, I'm going for a high pitching rate in hopes of keeping the...

English (kinda) IPA - looking for critique

I'm a relatively new homebrewer, this is the first recipe I've put together completely from scratch and I'd like some critique. I'm a huge Firestone fan so I decided to try something with English Ale yeast and threw some Maris Otter in there as well. Any ideas are welcome, I have no idea if...

Boil off rate is HIGHLY variable! :ugh:

For me it's mostly the wind's fault. Windy days mean I lose WAY more water.

    grassy 2013 Amarillo hops

I brewed my first single hop IPA ever with a 2013 batch of Amarillo, glad to know this thread confirms I'm not crazy. I wasn't very familiar with the taste and aroma beforehand (hence making the single hop beer) and thought maybe it was always like this.

Drake's Black Robusto (with input from the brewmaster)

My LHBS is a MoreBeer and there's a chance they'll have the coffee malt, etc, it's just listed as OOS on the website. I know Nothern Brewer sells it in smaller quantities. Isn't Black Patent going to make it more astringent than the real thing? The lack of astringency is something I'd really...

Drake's Black Robusto (with input from the brewmaster)

Hey guys, I'm totally new here but just spiraling into the delicious black hole of money and time known as homebrewing. Anyway, for my first dark beer, I wanted to brew a clone of one of favorite (if not my favorite) porters, local brewery Drake's Black Robusto. If you haven't tried it, you...
