2013 NHC in Philly! Who's going?

Why didnt the use more of the convention center for club night? They had the whole other half to spread it out and it would have flowed a lot better if they just gave it a little more room. On another note, did anybody have the jalapeño cream ale near the entrance? Really enjoyed that one...

I was also somewhat disappointed with Pro night. Looked like a few breweries didn't show up. I was looking forward to Duclaw, but they were a no show. Anybody make it over to the Stone tasting at Bru? It was a cool little place and enjoyed chatting with Mitch. The beer was also quite tasty.

2013 NHC in Philly! Who's going?

I was worried others would have tried to fly with those. Luckily, we made it home with the rye saison. Anybody try that yet? I really enjoyed the one club that had all the smash ipa's/pales. Strangeloves and Monks were the place to be. Amazing brews. I did not make it to Eulogy, but wanted...

We drank ours. Both cans bulging and over carbed as hell. It did not explode, but it foamed out of the cup the second it hit the glass.

Looks like Monks is pouring Pliney, Sup, Dam, and one other RR now.

2013 NHC in Philly! Who's going?

Anybody witness the exploding commemorative cans? I guess they pulled the cans they handed out at registration due to quite a few exploding. I looked at the 2 we have and they look like the are ready to pop.

Nice. I enjoyed the FW 16 before the club night. Pliny and RR sup were gone by the time we got there. They had bottles of FW 15 and Thomas Hardy 09 for sale too.

Pliney, FW16, RR Sup, and Cantillion on draft at Strangeloves. About .3 miles from the convention.

Best picture from pro night. Wish I could have snapped a picture of the beer fountain from Laganitas last night.

Yeah, he showed off his new vertical system. It has 2 pots, one on top of each other and it is similar to a recirculating BIAB. It came in 2 sizes, 15 gallon and I dont recall the other size. I also saw an E-brewpot. It looked like it had a mini tower of power hooked up to it. Pretty cool stuff.

The pork roast sandwich from Dinics was pretty darn good. It is in reading terminal. The ruben we had from Herschel's was amazing last night too.

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Looks like another batch with arborio is needed. I was reading about arborio and apparently it is in the same family as the Japanese sticky rice. Guess it makes sense that it would make good wine.

Yep, it was with the small yeast balls. Please let us know how it turns out. I will get some more and try it out too so I can see if I can repeat it.

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I had posted a day or so ago about a great batch I made with arborio rice. I know other rices have not been successful, but I was amazed how this one came out. I know there has been some experiments with other rices in previous pages, but did anybody have or try arborio before? Wondering if i...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I saw more black mold spores when I left it out in the light. I have been putting the clear glass in the dark or using small 2 gallon white plastic buckets and I have been seeing zero black spores and minimal mold growth.

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Just harvested my arborio rice batch and it is by far my best batch. I had a 1lb bag in the pantry for......3 years. I decided to make the batch at 1:1.5 no soak method. I pitched 2 small Vietnamese yeast balls and left it in the dark for 20 days. The color is slightly yellow and the flavor is...
