    all grain kits

IMHO, you'll need a refined palate and experience tasting both to really tell a difference. It's the same thing if you were trying to tell the difference between box brownies and those made from scratch. An experienced baker might know the difference but not always either.

I took the labels off, but then this happened... Now what?!?!

Well ya'll were right once again, I soaked the bottles in a StarSan solution and they cleaned right up. That was a lot easier than some of the alternatives I was considering. I think I'll use PBW next time for delabeling to avoid this.

    all grain kits

There are tons of recipes online also. Start at the AHA site, pick a recipe for your favorite style, write down the ingredients or bookmark it to your phone, then go to the grain room at your LHBS and load up.

I took the labels off, but then this happened... Now what?!?!

Some really great tips here guys, thank you so much. I'm going to try some of these methods right now.

I took the labels off, but then this happened... Now what?!?!

As it has been mentioned many times before on here, I soaked some bottles in an oxy clean solution to remove the labels but now I have a secondary problem... I submerged the bottles completely and the glue residue that came off made its way into the bottle. Now I have a layer of glue residue...

    First Brew this weekend

Perfect timing. This post on the AHA site came out today. http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/how-to-brew/cold-brew-coffee-adding-coffee-beer/ I recently made the most delicious coffee stout (IMHO), and I added 5 cups of cold brew to the bottom of the primary fermenter then poured the...

Peace Coffee 2nd Crack Stout question

Yea I'm not sure either, but I learned a lesson. I'm going to take a picture of the reading just to be sure and keep good notes. On the hydrometer, it was right on the line between "beer" and "wine" markings. Hey, maybe it'll just be a session beer. Better luck next time.

Peace Coffee 2nd Crack Stout question

I'm raising this one from the dead... I brewed a 5 gal. partial mash batch a couple weeks ago and plan to bottle tomorrow if the FG number hasn't changed. I tasted the wort when I took a sample for the reading and was very pleased with the flavor. I didn't follow the recipe in that I cold...

Which ingredients for my first IPA?

Well I had one recently that I really enjoyed and it spurred my creativity. It was a brew called 4C's from The Brew Kettle (http://www.thebrewkettle.com/beers/index.html). The IBU range was perfect, and I guess this one is more of an APA, which is fine. It was delicious. This would be the...

Which ingredients for my first IPA?

I wasn't interested in IPA's before but I've recently taken a liking to them. I want to come up with my own extract/partial recipe. What is it that defines an IPA? For it to be an IPA what are the minimum base ingredients? I would really like to use Columbus hops in the brew as one of...

    Pissed off at UPS

I brewed my first batch of beer ever, a German altbier, and shipped 18 bottles to another state to enjoy with friends and family. Somewhere along the way one or more of them broke. I didn't find out about it until I called to check on the status when the package never showed up on time. They...

Why "We're Pregnant!" bugs me so much

I'm with you on this. I can't stand hearing that. I told my wife everytime she said it "No... WE are not pregnant. YOU are." And when talking about someone else, "No... THEY are not pregnant. SHE is."

I'm in the southeast, in Clear Lake. I just bottled the first batch mentioned above two days ago. Really looking forward to tasting it. It smelled awesome. What have you brewed so far?

    Hello from Houston

Thanks yall for the welcomes. Hey Marcus, appreciate the good advice. So if I wanted to have them bottled and ready to drink by late March, would you then suggest using a secondary? Is the purpose of a secondary only for clarity? The temp right now according to the fermometer is...

    New Guy - NE Ohio

Welcome. I'm new here too and live in Houston, but I grew up in Lake County, Painesville to be exact. I saw NE Ohio in the title and had to "hop" in. Pun intended.
