Starting to tinker with my own recipes

If lager is what you are going for, I’d go with the Saaz. Do you use any brewing software? What kind of setup do you use? You have some kind of fermentation vessel that can handle pressure, but what about the brewing side? Just trying to steer you closer to your goal.

    Experimental 26 Hops

Not much different than the spiel from Hops Direct, but it doesn’t sound bad. I’ll report back when I use it.

    Experimental 26 Hops

Anyone have experience with the Experimental 26 hops from Hops Direct? I bought a pound and am curious if anyone has any flavor and aroma notes. The website has some info here. I’m already planning some Pale Ale and IPA to test it out. Any similar varieties?

    What are you drinking now?

Fremont Brewing B-Bomb 2019 I got this beer from a friend that lives in the Seattle area. He brought it down years back on a visit to the LA/OC area. Pours deep brown and ruby, small head that dissipates. Nose is classic imperial stout with some barrel notes. Thick, chewy, velvety with the low...

What I did for beer today

Continuing my moving in and unpacking all of my stuff, today I got to organizing some of the beer things. My garage was built in 1950 and my grandparents lived here since ‘51. My grandfather built these shelves that are not adjustable and are kinda impractical for most things. He kept paint...

    What are you drinking now?

A beer and glass from the way back machine. As I keep putting my brewing stuff away and organize all my brewing equipment, I opened the boxes with all my beer glasses. Included was this one: The OG Vintage 2008 HBT Pint Glass Anyone else around here have some of these? Paired with a vintage...

What I did for beer today

I’ve begun cleaning and rebuilding my kegerator. It’s an old GE fridge from at least the 70’s if not older that used to be in my grandparents house. I aquired it in 2006 and turned it into a kegerator. With my recent move it has sat unplugged for a month. Besides needing cleaning, it was...

    What are you drinking now?

This one is more of a “What Are You Drinking Out Of?” post. Years ago after my grandfather had passed away and my grandmother moved in to my parents place, I acquired a set of beer glasses that were going to go away if I didn’t want them. They were my grandfathers, but were still in the...

    What are you drinking now?

And now another beer from deep in the cellar. Anchor Our Special Ale 2009 A loud pssst on opening. Poured with a good head and carbonation. Aroma is perfumey and flowery. First sip is of spices. Cinnamon, pine and faint spruce. Spice fades to cocoa and roasted malt, toasted bread crust and...

What I did for beer today

I bought hops from Hops Direct. A pound each of Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, Idaho 7, Willamette, and an experimental hop. I’ve always liked their selection and prices. Back in the day their “pound” bags were notorious for being closer a pound and a half or more.

    What are you drinking now?

From yesterdays beer deep in the cellar, to today’s beer from a much more recent vintage. Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine 2024 I always enjoy these from fresh to about three years old with around 1.5 to 2 being around perfect. It’s good fresh, but mellows out with age. This one with one year...
