Blue Moose- did you soak the oak chips seperately in different jars of alcohol or did you throw them all in one jar?

Ho Ho Ho, brewing Santa came yesterday!

Ho Ho Ho, brewing Santa came yesterday!

I pretty much agree with this statement. I recently came up on a 15 gl brew kettle because a friend couldn't brew in his new apartment. I told him I would watch it for him since I didn't have the heart to keep it- plus when he moves again he'll need it. Then a friend had a baby and he is storing...

Opening beer bottles without a proper opener? What objects have you used?

I use my wedding ring and when I do, there's usually one guy in the crowd that needs to learn. I warn them that I have a tungsten ring and it doesn't stratch.

    Layering dry hop additions?

I have been layering my dry hop additions- 1 oz just after fermentation and 1 oz a week later. Essentially the first addition is in the fermenter for 2 weeks but I haven't noticed any vegetal flavors in my beer. I am using pelletized Falconer's Flight 7 C's though so maybe that may have...

    Sam Adams Utopias....Worth it??

Up to you if it's worth it. I was at the local craft beer bar on Saturday. The owner's brother popped in and surprised a few of us with a free taste. To my wife and I, it tasted like a tawny port. We didn't get any carbonation- not sure if that was how it should be or if the bottle had been...

    Anyone try Sierra Nevad's Sierrandipity?

Sierra Nevada did a tap takeover at a local pub and had something like 70 taps. My wife and I were able to try a lot of beers on tap we had not seen before and found a few styles that we did not think we liked, but absolutely loved. Sierrandipity in particular was an English Bitter. They had 2...

Let beer warm to room temp between cold crashing and bottling?

Holy Crow! Sorry for the mis information and thanks for setting me straight!

Let beer warm to room temp between cold crashing and bottling?

Also you'll need to take into consideration your temp when adding priming sugar. A certain amount of C02 remains in suspension at colder temps and adding the normal amount of sugar will cause your beer to be over carb'd http://www.tastybrew.com/calculators/priming.html ***IGNORE THIS POST-...

Nice article on how AB InBev is trying to destroy good beer for higher profits

What stuck out to me was the line about needing to take a few years off from buying hops because they had too much in stock? What? Can you have enough hops for years to come and still produce good beer that you expect to taste the same. I had a hard time believing that. And then the next...

Advice for a brewer who doesn't drink

The only thing I could think of when I read this was that I wouldn't jump with a chord made from a person who studied the science of bungee jumping and manufactured them using good practices but never tested them. Sadly you didn't go there. It would have been funny... You had a lot of valid...

    Odd Taste in Commercial Beer

Wet Cardboard is usually oxidized beer. Don't introduce oxygen after fermentation and you'll be fine.

    Cleaning brew kettle

I use Teflon Tape to help ensure the seal. I had real issues with leaks when I first got my kettle until I used it. Ever since I take it apart every 5 brews or so to change the tape and haven't had an issue with leaks since.
