    Beer Kit....Check!

5-gallons goes much quicker than you think. You will soon get a beer that you really like and wonder where the hell it went. There are recipies that I brew in only 10-gallon batches because I can not keep them on tap.

    Beer Yeast Question.

Some beers have yeast in the bottles and some don't. Chimay and SNPA are bottle coditioned and have yeast in the bottle. Most beers are filtered or pastuerized and do not have yeast in the bottles.

    Pin lock to ball lock

Would it not be easier/cheaper to have a faucet with pin lock fittings (or even install quick disconnects with variable fittings) than to convert pin locks to ball locks?

    Brewing Degree?

I live near UC Davis. I have been getting brewing science texts from students through craigslist. I am essentially getting the education with out the cost of tuition. I will not get the degree... but then again I have no desire to be a production brewer, so no need for the piece of paper.

    burner questions

Go to your local flea market. They will have banjo burners there that are great for brewing beer with a nice stand for between $40 -$50. This is what the Mexicans use to make their beef, chicken, and everything else. They also use them to steam tamales. Great deal. I bought 1 three years ago and...

MUST stops for beer near Sacramento?

If you want Pliney, go to Pangaea on Franklin Blvd near Broadway. They have Pliney on tap there. Also several Belgian ales as well. Otherwise, I think you have most of the other places. You just missed Sacramento Beer week. I would highly recommend taking a day and going to Russian River...

    Split Batch Experiment

Leave it as is for a control. This way you can know exactly what effect the Watermelon extract and the oak chips have on the beer.

What do you use for temperature control?

I still use the low tech way of controlling my ale temps. I place my bucket fermenter in a large ice chest filled with water. In the summer I rotate Gatorade bottles filled with ice to lower the temp. In the winter, I use an aquarium heater to raise the temps. For lagers I use an unmodified...

How to get that strong hop aroma?

I enjoy the combination of Cascade and Centennial in the dry hop. I also leave my dry hops in the keg. Use whole leaf hops and put them in a 1-gallon paint strainer bag, and throw 'em in the keg.
