    bottles not full enough

Just tilt the bottle and fill it by depressing the plunger on the wand on the side of the bottle, I routinely would fill my ipa's to within a half inch to rim. Your wand displaces volume while filling.

    Carbonation suggestions

Absolutely...you can go the route of bottling if you want, and just use corn sugar, using the calculators online for how much to use. But with ipa's you have to be extra careful every freakin step of the way to avoid oxygen. But......I just switched to kegging and geez is it better. If you...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

After showing up to a party and this guy knowing I showed up with home brewed beer, in conversation with others I overhear him tell people that Guinness draft is a "porter stout", "it's always over 8%"

    White IPA

I've been really curious about this yeast. I have a couple packets in my fridge now. Waiting for the right brew. Thought about doing a small 1 gallon batch but I think I'll just go straight to a full batch. Read good things, and you have confirmed similar. What's your attenuation been for this...

    head retention in dubbel/tripel

Usually my base in a dubbel is belgian pale. I will start with the step mash and finish a bit higher as well and see what happens on the next batch. All my other batches do well so I'm not sure what is causing this. The only common variables are candi sugar, belgian pale malt, and belgian abbey...

    head retention in dubbel/tripel

Nope. I have good retention in all my others. I conquered ph and water a while back so I've had that down pretty well. But I usually just mash at 150. I may consider starting at 130 then raising. Could it be anything else? Oh and I do have some crystal and special b in the recipe

    head retention in dubbel/tripel

Not sure where to post this. I have not had a single dubbel or tripel recipe turn out with appropriate head retention. Done 3 batches and each time I get the cola fizz. I have a batch going now and it seems it may end up the same. So 2 questions: Is krausen a good indication of head...

    No more shaking for oxygen?

I don't particularly enjoy doing the carboy shuffle. If its possible to attain double oxygen ppm with zero effort (or additional equipment), why not? At this point I'm just curious if its possible

    No more shaking for oxygen?

I thought of that as well. Just not sure how much gas can be produced from the liquid
  16. D

    No more shaking for oxygen?

I've suspected this as well. Though those out there with DO testers have shown that shaking for 2 minutes versus 1 minute doubles oxygen ppm. And unless I have a really hoppy beer, going through the funnel only lasts 30 seconds to a minute.

    No more shaking for oxygen?

I found out it would take 200g in 1 sitting, to be lethal by mouth. Intravenous is totally different. So it appears to be safe. Question becomes how many grams I need to oxygenate adequately and how is the leftover kcl going to affect taste? I highly doubt that 1 few gram tablet would...

    No more shaking for oxygen?

Any idea on what quantities or ppm it becomes dangerous?

    No more shaking for oxygen?

I suppose someone with more chemistry knowledge could tell us how many grams of KClO3 it would take to give us ~10ppm o2 in a 5 gallon batch, the resulting ppm of KCl, and the ppm level that becomes dangerous for humans?
  20. D

    No more shaking for oxygen?

It looks like it's made from potassium chlorate. Which then gives off o2 and leaves behind potassium chloride. I suppose the question is how much o2 can be derived without altering flavor too much with the leftover KCl?
