    Paging Arkansans!

Old Farmer, Fermentables is where I get all of my homebrew supplies. I can't totally endorse all of the malt there since I'm mostly extract with some steeping grains. But Mike does try to help out as much as he can and I can easily endorse Fermentables. Mike Byrum is super-helpful and can...

    Paging Arkansans!

Oldfarmer, I'm a homebrewer that lives in Arkansas. I haven't seen anyone else on the boards from Ark, but it's a great place for information. Welcome to HBT!

    Jalapeno Beer

This year for Cinco de Mayo I brewed a chili beer. I didn't want a lot of heat so I used green chili peppers (anaheim?). I roasted them on my grill for a while until the skins were burnt and then sliced them and pulled out the seeds and veins. Then I threw it all in my fermenter along with a...

    Honey IPA

5g, I tried a honey IPA at an Oktoberfest party sponsored by the local homebrew club and loved it. The honey flavor worked well with the hops in the IPA. Since then I've wanted to try to brew one, but haven't found a good recipe. What kinds of hops did you use? Let us know how it turns...

1st label - Hoppy Daz IPA

Bpoch, Very nice label. I did a similar one with the hops in the background that was for an IPA brewed for one of my dogs (the Brutal Schnoodle). I think the Fonz would approve of your label. :rockin: Darren

    carbonating

Mot, Here is a link to Northern Brewer (http://www.northernbrewer.com/sugars.html) to their sugars. I haven't used Northern Brewer before, but I have a friend that swears by them. It looks like they have two different types of the priming tablets (Coopers & Muntons). I haven't tried using...

    Chile Beer Help

I'm planning on brewing a chile beer this weekend for SWMBO for Cinco de Mayo. I found a recipe that calls for 1 pound of roasted green chiles. I'm looking more for a nice chile flavor and not so much heat that you can't drink it. The recipe is very vague on how to handle the chiles besides...

    Designing all Amarillo IPA

JD, I brewed a beer from a recipe I got at my LHBS recently that's very similar to your recipe. It called for 8 lbs of light LME and used 0.5 lbs of victory and 0.5 lbs of crystal malt as specialty grains. I used 1 oz of Nugget hops at the start of the boil and then 1 oz of amarillo hops...

    lid blew off!

I've been brewing in a bucket and until my last batch (oatmeal stout) have never had a foam over. Do like everyone else has said and sanitize everything after you clean up and you should be fine. CO2 is a great protector of beer. Darren

How hard is it to mini-mash...possibly my third brew

Keep in mind that mini-mashing is different from steeping. I didn't realize this myself until recently. If you by a kit with grains that you put in 170 degree water for 30 minutes, all you are doing is steeping those grains to get flavor out. A true mini-mash involves actually mashing a...

    New Belgium Brewery Tour

Definitely check out Basic Brewing Radio if you get a chance (http://www.basicbrewing.com/). They have had some great podcasts with Adam Avery, Randy Mosher, and a great interview with Charlie Papazian. I've learned a lot from them. :rockin:

    First label attempt

DM, The self-adhesive labels come off fairly easily. Probably not as easily as using the milk method, but not bad. Usually I peel the labels off as I'm rinsing the bottle after drinking and it comes off pretty well. Darren

    Another foam-over

Torchy, I have had the same problem this week with an Oatmeal Stout that I brewed. I have never had any problems at all with my plastic fermenter with foamovers. My current batch is an oatmeal stout and it fermented like crazy after about 48 hours in the fermenter. It finally calmed down...

    First label attempt

Dirtymartini, Did you use Publisher for that label? I have been using Publisher for all my labels so far and have a label that looks very similar to that. I used it for a "Fat Tire" clone called "Fat Cat Ale". I have found that if you are using Publisher that you can use an Avery label...

    vanilla porter

Machine, I just bottled my vanilla porter a few days ago. Trying to save some $$ I used vanilla extract instead of a vanilla bean. I added 1 oz during the last hop addition in the last few minutes of the boil. I tasted the beer right before I bottled and could detect a subtle vanilla...
