    Force Carbing - Leaks?

Poured a pint or two last night. It looks well enough carbonated for me! A nice head, and some bubbles climbing up the sides of the glass after the pour. I'd say the experiment was a success. That being said, I'm going back to carbonating in the keg using priming sugar. Or, in a pinch...

    Force Carbing - Leaks?

it hasn't crept up since this am, but thank you for the heads up. I'll keep an eye on it until I leave.

    Force Carbing - Leaks?

The CO2 is connected at 12 psi, where it will remain for the next 5 days.

    Force Carbing - Leaks?

So, it went into the kegerator under 30 psi at 68, but dropped to 39 overnight. When I recharged it back to 30 psi the next morning, it was at 39. It held pressure for 24 hours, when I bled it completely, and reset at 12 psi where it will sit until Monday. I'm feeling pretty confident that...

    Force Carbing - Leaks?

Ok, so I checked again this morning. A big, healthy release of CO2 when I burped it, so I've ruled out a leak. I bled it completely and hooked it up to about 12 psi, where it will sit until I return on Monday. Fingers crossed it doesn't foam like hell when I pour my first pint next week...

    Force Carbing - Leaks?

Ok, thank you. Checked again, and the pressure seems to be holding. Got a good, quick burp when I pulled the PRV tonight, so the keg is holding pressure. C The fridge is set at about 40 degrees, and the beer is chilled to that temp. Rocked it for a bit, and will hit it again with another 30 psi...

I like big Krausen, and I cannot lie

Quick update, as expected, the krausen went as quickly as it came. Seemed to fall overnight. I gave it a handful of extra days in the primary just to be sure the yeast petered out, before putting it in the corny. Exactly 2 weeks after I pitched. As with most of my brews, it looked darker than...

    Force Carbing - Leaks?

Hello All, Just transferred my kolsch into the corny after about 2 weeks in the primary. I normally either carbonate my beer in the keg with priming sugar, or chill it quickly before hitting it with 30-40 Psi and rocking it for 10 or so minutes. As I don't intend to drink this one for a few...

I like big Krausen, and I cannot lie

I've never thought about harvesting the krausen - that's interesting. How do you do that? With regard to the gunk, I used whirfloc at the end of the boil, and always find it results in a really fluffy trub. It's cool to see it churning so quickly in the fermentor, but it does leave some funk at...

I like big Krausen, and I cannot lie

Kolsch is one of my favorite summertime recipes, so I'll definitely try and compare the 2565 next time. Thanks!

I like big Krausen, and I cannot lie

I'm fully aware that the size of the krausen has no bearing on the quality of the beer. I just thought it was interesting the way this one took off so quickly. As you can see, I use the Big Mouth Bubbler, which has always had enough head space for the other batches I've brewed. Like I said, the...

I like big Krausen, and I cannot lie

Wyeast 1007 has Kolsch listed as a style acceptable to the yeast: https://wyeastlab.com/yeast-strain/german-ale What would you have used specifically?

I like big Krausen, and I cannot lie

Thanks! It's sub-70 degrees where I'm fermenting. I don't think the temps are ramping it up. I did a really good job of shaking the hell out of the primary to aerate. Wondering if the combination of good year and lots of O2 gave it a good kick start!

I like big Krausen, and I cannot lie

I brewed a Brewer's Best extract Kolsch kit yesterday. As usual, I added a pound of light DME, and swapped out the crappy yeast for a Wyeast 1007 for German Ale. I don't have a question, but rather just wanted to brag about my huge krausen! I've seen some of the wheat beer yeasts take off like...

Another does this look infected pic

I love the Big Mouth Bubbler, but hate those lids. I push the lid on and then put one of my wife's 5 Lb. plastic barbells on it. Keeps it down well enough.

    Home Brewing = Saving Money?

It's about a break-even for me. I brew 5 gallon extract batches, and end up with about 24 (or so) 22oz bottles. If I was doing 12 oz bottles, I'd end up with 44, or about 7 six packs. I generally make my own recipes, and try to use good, fresh ingredients. I'll typically pay $50-$75 for those...

    Hazy/Juicy/NEIPA

I'm not big on hoppy beer, but wanted to brew a crowd-pleaser. I asked a buddy to help me build a recipe for an east coast-meets-west coast IPA, and added some grapefruit. Everyone who's tasted it loves it. It was an extract, so I clouded it up with some flaked wheat in the steep. I did a...

Newbie Made 2 Kegging Mistakes- Bad?

Thanks, very helpful. So, just unscrew the black housing with the pressure regulator? I have a kegco one as well, kind a like this, but with both a tank and keg gauge: Is it right hand thread, or lefty loosey? What about the valve and valve housing? Remove those as well and clean? Right hand...
