    My Basement Bar Build

I found this years ago in college and got a few components towards the build. It was called a Bar Monkey but for the life of me, I can't find where the site went. Here's something similar if you wanted to automated your beer dispensing...

    Bottle Sanitization

Quite a few people use Oxiclean to get the gunk and grime out of bottles (if they've been used before) then go to sanitize the day of bottling, and hang the bottles on a bottling rack until filled and capped. This below helps. http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter11.html

    Consistently low Original Gravity

Personally, I think NYC water is some of the best I've ever had.

Economical and quick wort cooling methods

Not sure if this is how it works in the first place, but you might get a double effect if you fill 1/3 of the kettle with ice, allowing the remaining room for melting H20. I may try it and post

    New to the hobby!!

I've seen this kit in action and it is super simple. http://makebeer.net/item.asp?idProduct=1&idCategory=1&idSubCategory=0 I would agree that if you do get addicted (most likely) I would invest in a second bucket or carboy.

Long Primary w/o Straining Hop Pellets?

I had the exact same worry. Good to know I'm not the only one wondering. I do love these forums

Economical and quick wort cooling methods

I understand how the coil immersion chiller works but how does this chiller with the kettle work? Are you supposed to submerge the whole thing in the wort, filling the kettle as you do?

Can you use commercial bottles for your batch?

I appreciate it Walker. Happy Brewing

Can you use commercial bottles for your batch?

Newbish question but I was wondering if after drinking say a Sam Adams or whatever, can you clean and sanitize the bottles and reuse them for my own batch? I'd purchase new caps of course

Lid taken off and put back on, batch lost?

Anytime you care to swap a bottle or two Krumb, just hollar. Would love to see what others are doing in their laboratories ;)

Lid taken off and put back on, batch lost?

Haha, hilarious. I appreciate all the comments, putting a mad scientists heart to rest.

Lid taken off and put back on, batch lost?

@FensterBos I pitched last friday. Bubbling in the airlock stopped 2 days later so I guess I was a little worried the fermentation wasn't strong enough for any CO2 to keep the air at bay, but reading other comments makes sense. I may as well take a SG reading, and a homebrew

Lid taken off and put back on, batch lost?

I know there are stickies and I've read through quite a few of them. But my father mistakingly took 'take the towel off' for 'take the top off' and well did so. He said he placed it back on but didn't snap it back on. As I'm at work, I have no idea what he has actually done but the clean...

    HEPA filter orientation for aeration?

I would agree with above, I would imagine there would be some air in/out but it being a simple plug and play filter, I'm not sure it would matter. Air passes through the filter regardless. I dipped the end of the line that touched the wort in my star-san solution just prior to aerating. That...

    1st Brew in Arlington, TX

Just started my first batch last Friday and I'm already addicted. Getting ideas for my next batch, I can't wait. These forums are amazing with so much info and help, I really appreciate it and look forward to many new batches. To any in the DFW area, cheers! :mug:

    Should Fermment Finish Before Secondary?

I started fermenting my first batch this friday. Within 48 hrs all activity ceased with blowoff. Now I didn't bother to filter the hops in the wort before pitching. Along this same line of thinking, would it be best to rack to a secondary, attempting to eliminate most of the hops and trub...

    First beer in the fermenter...

Started my first last friday (Amber Ale) and needless to say, I feel like a kid on Christmas, I can't wait to unwrap my toy! Waking up this weekend hearing my blowoff burp made for a good weekend indeed. Stable temps and patience for a few weeks and we'll see. Up next, a bourbon barrel porter...

Snowed in - First Brew questions

I too just started my Autumn Amber Ale from Midwest last friday. Fermenting lasted 48 hrs nearly, just waiting in the primary now. Keep in touch, I'd like to see how the same kit ended up half a country away. Brew now, pelt neighbor kids with snowballs later!

So I got my kit and I have only one ?

I believe with 5 gallons, 4 oz of sugar will do the trick
