3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

I run aquarium chillers on my BIAC (old medium 90L) and Brewer's Hardware 15gal conical that are both 1/3hp (Teco Tank). I switch over from municipal to the chiller around 100*F. Gives me time to do any leftover cleanup and prep by the time it takes it down the rest of the way to pitching...

3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

We initially planned to to the commercial 5bbl BIAC system but it just wouldn't fit right with our business plan and some of the downsides outweighed the upsides. Going to try and do it a 2-vessel brewhouse (in-line water heater) with just unitank FV's and no BBT so we'll see how well that...

I, too, have the original style colander with just the perforated holes. I had been debating between adding a second false bottom as you have or going with the bag+false bottom, but the "dead water" thing won me over. I'm actually brewing right now so I'll snap a few pics.

Agreed, I haven't noticed really any oxidation with the quicker 1/2" hose technique. I think because the beer is racked so quickly that it's exposure to oxygen is fairly minimal. And in anything but a super heavy hopped hazy style beer you won't notice much. I did try once to do sort of a...

3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

I typically brew Belgian/French farmhouse style beers, mixed ferm, and occasionally a hazy style IPA (with kveik of course!). So this is mostly an issue with the hazy type beers, but I do occasionally like big whirlpools in my saisons, and when doing one with noble low 2-3AA% hops, there can be...

You're exactly who I was thinking of when I wrote that post! Thanks for the feedback. I have the exact same hop spider as you, though only one, which gets pretty crowded once you go above 6oz as I see why you have two of them. The only thing about the spiders as I said before, I think they...

Been a long time since I posted in this thread, but had a question for everyone and how they handle heavily hopped beers (pre-fermenatation). Originally I just chucked them in loose, which created the normal issue of plugging the bottom port. Switched over to a butterfly valve and still had...

I didn't think much about it until I was installing it and figured it was just regular rubber since it is for a fermentor and not necessarily a high temp application. Figured better safe than sorry. FWIW my Brewers hardware conical looks to have similar o-rings and I transfer over straight...

For those of you with the rotating TC racking arms installed in the rack port, I assumed you replaced the gaskets with high temp silicon? Anybody have a link to the correct part?

Has anyone tried to whirlpool post boil through the bottom of the cone and through a Stout style racking arm aimed slightly up at the racking port? Not sure if it would be pulling too close to the outlet to form a good enough whirlpool. Both conicals are filled up so can't test right now.

    Help with Mash Recirculation

Reviving an old thread. Is anyone using a COFI style recirculation arm in a MT with a false bottom and no bag/basket? Maybe I have missed it in this thread but thinking of buying a piece of copper and drilling holes in it for recirculation (bottom to top) jamming it down in the center of the...

Do you leave the false bottom in there through boiling/fermentations?

Have a picture of your setup by chance? Curious how you recirculate with the pump without the valve mount from the colander.

Thanks for the links. I'll definitely still keep pedio separate from the BIAC, and stick with lacto only if I do decide to pitch in the BIAC. Post up the results if you actually autoclave the ball valves and what your process is :mug:

Did a search on plasmids on MTF wiki and really didn't come up with anything. A lot of breweries share equipment between clean and LAB stuff and even use Brite tanks between the two as mixing tanks or ferment tank - just being careful using anything soft between the two like hoses, gaskets, etc...

I'll try the dump, then pump method next time to see how it does. Is anyone doing non-pasteurized mixed culture/LAB ferments in the BIAC? I've just done Brett stuff mostly and a kettle sour. I know lacto is pretty easy to kill and typically, depending on strain, very hop resistant but Pedio...

Those that transfer from the BIAC to another conical - what is your process? For the last 2 brews I have used the standard SS chugger pump and hoses that I use to recirculate the mash. Right when I flame (electric?) out, I have the pump hooked up to the bottom of the BIAC and to the inlet of...
