The only ones that even KIND of meet what I'm experiencing are the "medicinal" and "solvent-like" descriptions, but the causes don't seem to be problems that I would expect to have gone wrong. I'm bummin kind of hard on this one cause I really put a lot of effort into it and it would suck to...
So, I recently brewed an IPA recipe that I got through my LHBS. Just before bottling, I sampled a taste and it was great!
However, a couple/few weeks later, I've now tested 2 bottles, about a week apart each, and have noticed some major changes in the flavor of the beer since I bottled it...
Well, I guess the lucky thing about it is that at least 1 of my bottles is a #1 plastic. I'm guessing (and I'll check to make sure) that the other bottle is the same since it came from the same store and had the same markings on it. Can't be too safe I guess, but I'm glad that the luck of the...
Ah, I'll have to look into that to see how it looks. If it's got the #7 then I guess I'll be returning those to the grocery store after I'm done with them, lol.
So, in talking to a friend of mine the other day and talking about how expensive better bottles are ($30 a piece at the LHBS), he asked me, "Why don't you just get one of those 5 gallon water jugs that they put in water coolers?"
I thought about this for a while and couldn't come up with a...
I was also wondering about cloudy hoses, I left mine in some oxy clean over night to try to get out some stubborn coloration and they came out cloudy. Should I be worried?
This would make sense to me because I remember a year or two ago trying it out and thinking it was great. I recently bought a six pack, chasing the memory I had of the once-great-tasting beer, only to be disappointed by the change of flavors. It seems crisper with more of a spice to it these...
Another really good cheap option (and less work than the frozen bottles) is to place the carboy in a tub half full of water, and wrap a towel around the carboy. From here, place a small fan to blow air on the towel wrapped carboy. The evaporation will cause the towel to cool significantly...
This is pretty much how it's done in the beer world as well. Older methods include crimping a hose when the beer reaches the top of the bottle, but that's too much of a PITA if you ask me. Don't worry, it's ok to have a little room at the top of the bottle :-)
So, I've noticed that between my last batch and my current batch, the piece of hose that I use for my blowoff during the first few days of fermentation gets pretty grimy with sediment and what looks like hop particles. I've struggled to find an easy way to get this clean, and up till this point...
This is some really good information here, I'm glad you posted it. I'd like to set up a keg system at some point, but the fiance seems pretty dead set against having anything more in our place, lol. It might happen someday though. Anyways, you mentioned a few things like the coils being...
This was originally a recipe from Charlie Papazian's book: "The New Complete Joy of Home Brewing," called "Rocky Raccoon's Crystal Honey Lager." I messed up a few things along the way, so it ended up coming out a lot more like a steam ale, so I've named it, Goat Snot Honey Ale
I think one of the easier ways to do this is to go to a local grocery store (bigger the better) and go to the cooking section. There you can buy nice big strainers (mine was about $13 as I got a nice stainless steel one). From here, pour your wort out of your kettle, or whatever you use to...
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out in finding a good resource (online preferably) for extract recipes or extract + hops recipes. I would like to get a few more brews under my belt before I jump into grain recipes and would like to stick to the simple stuff to...
