SSBrewtech Unitank and Maximum Density of Water

I had a "doh" moment after listening to this week's Master Brewer's podcast (Episode 286: Fluid for Though). I have a 7 gal SSBrewtech Unitank that I use for making lagers. I use a fermentation schedule that I got from an interview with the owners of Bierstadt Lagerhaus in Denver that starts at...

Name That Skyline - Picture Game

All good guesses, but wrong. The skyline is, in fact, the 200 area of the DOE nuclear reservation in south-eastern Washington state where the plutonium used in the Trinity test (and featured in the recent Oppenheimer movie) was produced. But since I am stood right next to the x-arm of the LIGO...

Name That Skyline - Picture Game

Ok, let’s try this. No clues just yet.

Name That Skyline - Picture Game

Weltenburger Klosterbrauerei. It’s on my bucket list of places to go in Germany. The oldest monastic brewery in Germany.

    What are you drinking now?

HB hefeweizen after pulling up weeds on a Sunday afternoon. WY3638 pitched at 60F and fermented at 65F to emphasize the clove and reduce banana.

Fellowship of the Drink XXIX: Doug E. Fresh(beer) - Every Body Got 2 Get Some

Finally cracked open the Plan Bee Currant that @fourfarthing had been aging since 2016. Absolutely delicious! I grew up in England where currants are a staple. This is a delicious, well-aged, barrel wild ale that has a flavor that reminds me of childhood summers. Thank you!

    What are you drinking now?

Yep, it's Messier 16, the Pillars of Creation. You need to upgrade from the Hubble view to the JWST view: https://webbtelescope.org/contents/media/images/2022/053/01GFRZ014J0AWS5ZDY1Y6T7KYT

What is your home brewery's name?

I didn’t have a name, but during the pandemic I built a bar in the finished part of our basement with draft lines coming from the brewery that’s in the unfinished back part. My (then 8yo) daughter came up with the name: “The Remain Inn.”

    What are you drinking now?

HB Kölsch. 9lbs Barke Pils, 1 lbs Wyermann wheat malt, Perle for bittering and Tettnang for aroma. Great for summer. 2565 is still one of my favorites.

    What are you drinking now?

Keep an eye out for these starting in a few weeks. Paulaner has a gift pack of festbier with a 1 liter stein that comes with a 1 liter can inside of it. Wegmans (our local grocery store) started carrying them in 2020 and they come back every year. It's modern festbier (strong helles) rather than...

Name That Skyline - Picture Game

I’ll take a guess: did there used to be a giant floating map of the UK nearby?

    What are you drinking now?

Finished the yeast dump on the fermenter. Now enjoying the same recipe but with two weeks of conditioning and three months of lagering. There is hope, murky pilsner!
  16. duncan.brown

    What are you drinking now?

Drinking a sample of the HB Pilsner currently in the fermenter. Currently at 1.010 and fully carbed, so time to drop the temp towards lagering.

New post a picture of your pint

HB Pilsner that is going far too quickly for a 30 day ferment and a 3 month lager.

    Brewery Dashboard

I normally go for the approach of massive overpitching (2l starters decanted and stepped up to 4l) for my lagers to avoid them turning into movie-theatre popcorn. If this batch tastes good, I'll claim this was planned all along...

Official Star San ate my spray bottle thread

+1 for Zep. I keep one full of StarSan all the time and another full of Isopropyl Alcohol. Both work great, including the spray mechanisms, and are at least 3 years old.
