    Liquid line comparison - help

Ah, THANK YOU! I did search several areas of this forum and also on the interwebs trying all different combinations of phrases and I had no luck :|

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Not sure. I use the mill at my LHBS. I would ask them but I doubt they would know. I love all those guys and they have years and years of great brewing experience but none of them are real technical. Besides, I'm pretty sure that mill/hopper was set up about 25 years ago so I wouldn't expect...

    Broken Carboy Club

I'm not in the club and I still use glass but I also don't drink very much on a brew day until after the beer is in the fermenting fridge. I have heard so many horror stories that I make an extra effort to be super careful. If I do break one, I'll switch to plastic. Until then, I guess i'm...

    DIY Randall--confused

Hop resin (lupulin) is not water soluable, which is why we boil wort. It is, however, alcohol soluable. So yes, you ARE correct!

You don't need technology if you have good beer to drink!

    Bottle Caps for a bartop?

That's actually a really good idea, even if you want a clear shiny finish. You could tint the grout pretty easily to fill in the spaces between the caps and also keep them from floating up or releasing air bubbles into the epoxy of choice. You could do like a grey or black grout near the...

    Bourbon Barrel Cleaning?

I'm no barrel expert but I would say maybe a quick scrub with warm water to remove solids and a quick rinse then maybe mix up a bit of sodium or potassium metabisulfite with some water to sanitize.

    Arsenic in apple juice.

The drinking water standards are based on an average amount of water consumption. People obviously consume less juice than water. If you drink 5 glasses a day of tap water that has 3 ppb of arsenic (which is acceptable) and you drink one glass of apple juice a week which has 6 ppb...think about...

    Liquid line comparison - help

I saw on here somewhere a long time ago that someone had gone into great detail reviewing and comparing all different types and brands of beer line but I can't for the life of me find it. Maybe it was another website or something. Has anyone seen this? I would really like to find it again if...

    425ss

Yeah there was a recall on those from Perlick and they come with a 1 year warranty so if you have bad ones just take them back to where you bought them.

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

It very well could be too fine of a crush. You mention "after first runnings"...are you batch sparging? If so, does it run off just fine during the first run, then dump in hot water, try to drain second runnings and nothing? If this is the case, it sounds it's the compaction of the grain bed by...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Yeah I agree with you on this one. The "common knowledge" is that you don't want to leave it in the primary for more than 4 weeks and if you're fermenting for more than two months total there should be no trub at all in the fermenter but I also have aged beers for longer than this without...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Yeah I know a lot of people that use that set-up and have no problems. I was just suggesting things that might be causing his stuck sparge problem.

    i need corny keg info...

They are both the same volume, but as mentioned above, the pin locks (Coke style) are wider in diameter and shorter. You may need the skinnier ball lock (Pepsi style) to fit in your fridge or you might need the shorter pin locks to fit so try to work out your dimensions before you buy. Also, as...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

There are many options but the goal is to draw from across the entire bottom, not just from one point. You could build a manifold like most people use with rectangular coolers out of copper pipe and cut slits in it or you could use a pre-fab round perforated false bottom with a pickup tube...

    I give you THE BEAST

Okay so after studying all of the pictures carefully, I've finally wrapped my mind around how your system is plumbed, valved, and operational. That really is a very functional yet simplistic design, but I do have a few questions before I call you a genius! It appears that with the placement of...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Is the ss braid just the standard mesh tube? If so, I think your setup is probably what's causing your stuck sparge. Nothing wrong with the cooler, but you might want to build a manifold instead, to increase your "false bottom" surface area to mash volume ratio. The higher the better.
