What I did for beer today

I have found that having a solid quote from an outside service does wonders for the family’s gratitude. “A new one would have cost $1000!!!! Thank you for fixing that that.”

    Mash Bag vs Malt Pipe

This seems like my most likely solution. I am going to have to find a method for hanging the bag. May just have to build something….

    What are you drinking now?

Looking good for just a couple days on gas. Tastes like pine and grapefruit. HB PA 3.25%.

What I did for beer today

Sniffed the airlock of Murphy’s DIPA, and despite all of the errors, it’s smelling amazing!

    What are you drinking now?

Wife and I got an afternoon. Campsite Brewery in Covina, CA. Hoppy Pilsner, Boysenberry Kettle Sour, later WCIPA. Pretty good.

What I did for beer today

So, apparently I am making Murphy’s DIPA. When I got home from work, the mash was stuck. The wort that went into the BK was so cloudy, it clogged the filter, post-boil. Since I couldn’t use the plate chiller, I ended up pouring the wort from the BK into the fermenter, which would normally be...

    Mash Bag vs Malt Pipe

i am just finishing my second time using my Robobrew as my mash tun and it’s also the second time I have a stuck mash. I do not have this problem with my @wilserbrewer bags. In fact I transferred my mash out of the pipe and into the bag in my HLT, which now requires extensive cleaning. Is...

What I did for beer today

Changed the gaskets on a keg and then close-transferred the 3.25ABV PA into it. Mashed in a DIPA that I will finish tomorrow afternoon and drop on the PA’s yeast cake.

    What are you drinking now?

Samples to check FG. Very nice.

What I did for beer today

I checked for a clog, but found nothing, so I am going to take the keg apart completely before I fill it. I know something isn't right, as when I opened the fermenter to dry hop, it pushed out a ton of CO2. Standard bubbler as an escape hatch now, will just use tank CO2 to purge keg before...

    Wine soaked oak chips?

I use Irish whiskey-soaked Applewood chips for smoking grain when I do a smoked beer. I don't normally soak my wood chips in anything other than water for bbq, but now I am intrigued.

What I did for beer today

Hose from top of fermenter to keg in, keg out hose to growler of starsan. Previous times I have done this, the starsan foams like crazy. This time, pressure is building in the keg, slightly. It wasn't bubbling fast, anyway, so it may just be the potential ABV of 3.25%, or the fresh pack of...

What I did for beer today

The keg seems to building pressure, which I am releasing, but for some reason it is not passing through the keg into the blowoff bottle. Never had this happen before, so I expect that I have a leak in this system somehow. Debating just putting a bubbler back on the fermenter.

What I did for beer today

Attached a keg to the fermenter to fill with CO2. This is a desperation-based experiment. 4# of DME, Cascade hops at 60, 15, WP, and DH. Looking for 3.25ABV and 35IBU. I need more time to do an AG Brewday.

    Small recipe bagging

Late to the party, but vac-seal hops that have been broken down into smaller bits (1# to 1oz bags, for example), but unmilled grains are good in containers that keep out the bugs.

    What are you drinking now?

Why doesn't that keezer have...kegs? The amount of airspace that should be filled with beer-containers!

    What are you drinking now?

I think this will be my last nail for the evening: @j1laskey 's Caramel Quad from the 12 Beers of Christmas 2022. The caramel has become a level of complexity that I have no words to describe how this tastes. It's amazing, and at 11%, well,

    What are you drinking now?

What the Hell, let's keep the 12 Beers of Christmas 2022 theme going! While I wait for the boil to come up, here is "I am Gruit." I think this is @GoodTruble. The malt richness is balanced by the smoothness of the herbal mixture which shall remain a mystery. Pretty sure if you ask, the...

What I did for beer today

DME+Cascade pellets. Quick and dirty, but it'll be beer. And I won't be totally shagged out for work tomorrow.

    What are you drinking now?

From the 12 Beers of Christmas 2022. Some of the original flavors have muted, but others have entered into their space and it's just a nice afternoon beer: solid bitter with slight honey aftertaste, citrusy-earthy nose, and the teeniest of ginger burn throughout. I think this was from @TBC.
