    Grainfather!!

That's a great tip, thanks! :mug:

    Grainfather!!

I picked up a Grainfather to simplify my brewday a few weeks ago and have brewed 4 batches on it so far. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, but have a few gripes that I was hoping those who have had it longer (or have had read through this whole thread) might address: 1. Temperature drops 2-3...

    Go-To Brown Ale

Sounds good, especially with the toasted oats in place of the flaked barley. Only thing I would change is the yeast to a nice liquid yeast. Is it based off a Sam Smith's Nut Brown clone?

    Cleaning Carboys......

Hey Lorena! Yeah, brewing was just too much work since having kids, so I fell out of the hobby for a few years. I just simplified my process recently, though, and have brewed 4 times in the last 3 weeks. I'm excited about it again so I've been spending much more time back on the forum...

    Cleaning Carboys......

Awesome, one more thing in its favor! I've had carboys and better bottles with a krausen ring that oxyclean wouldnt remove completely, or just a generally hazy look, that when I hit with some beach was completely clear in a coupe of minutes. In fact, I'm going to have to clean my keg lines...

    Festbier World's Best Oktoberfest

Yeah, I do recommend a diacetyl rest once fermentation slows down. 34/70 will work great, just use two rehydrated packs.

    Cleaning Carboys......

As well as oxiclean and its generic equivalents work, I've found something even better at cleaning carboys. It's even cheap and already found in most households. Bleach. Just dilute it 1:5 or 1:10 with hot water and it completely removes any stuck on gunk, and sanitizes at the same time. It...

    Belgian Dark Session Ale?

Half a pound of candi syrup is a lot in a 1 gallon batch. But since you want to do it, I think keeping it simple would be best. You're using enough candi syrup you really dont need chocolate malt or roasted barley. I'd keep the recipe simple as follows OG 1.052 IBU 25 SRM 29 1.25 lbs...

    Old Speckled Hen Clone

I've always liked Old Speckled Hen - at least when it's fresh and bottled (I don't much care for the nitro widget can stuff). So I figured why not just make a batch so I can have it on tap anytime I want. There's a recipe in Brew Your Own British Real Ale, but like most of the recipes in...

    Continually Evolving Memory

I really should search my records to discover what I was drinking in the winter of 08!

    I'm Back!

I'm back! After an extended brewing hiatus the result of the usual stuff - had two kids, lost my enthusiasm for brewing and the work it entailed, etc. - I've finally gotten back into the game. I'm sure many of you have gone through similar lapses in your brewing that comes with most hobbies...

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

Yeah, carabohemian should make a great substitute! It's slightly lighter in color but it shouldn't make a huge difference and from the description, it looks like it has exactly the flavors I used the crystal 80 for in the original recipe.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

The husk won't change color much if at all. When you crack into the kernel, the interior will have gone a nice tannish color. You don't want it any darker than that.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

It should be great after 3 weeks in the bottle, but will only keep getting better in the months after that.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

Depends on if you want your beer to taste like a jack o lantern or a pumpkin pie. :cross: Pie pumpkins are the way to go.

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

I like your idea 3 the best, though I think it would be more of an american amber than a brown. All amarillo hops to about 35 IBU and us-05 yeast. That would be a great beer.

    Festbier World's Best Oktoberfest

Hey Swifty. I actually enjoy sharing my recipes. I get lots of pleasure from seeing other people brew them and have good results. It's a nice boost to the ego when people say that a recipe of mine they brewed is the best beer they've made, though I think recipes are less than half the...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Very cool! Are you using it in place of all the water? What's its specific gravity? Let me know how it turns out!
