    your addicted to homebrewing when......

... you enjoy your first batch so much that your second batch isn't bottled, it's kegged. ... In your new kegerator, ... which you built while the second batch was fermenting. :) ... 4 taps, no waiting. :)

Clogged corny keg... what to do?

I was able to clear a clog by switching the corny keg connections and hooking up the beer 'out' to the CO2 line. Then I just started venting the keg through the vent at the top and it blew out the clog into the keg. Never had to take the beer out and didn't have any foam issues at all.

    Cost of kegging

+1 to all of this with the additional comment that you should watch out for older fridges or chest freezers. You may find something really cheap for sale on Craig's list but then find that it's not Energy Star rated and that it's going to cost more to run each year than it cost to buy...

Please help me setup my kegerator!

OK, first: slow down. I think the 40 psi idea was the problem. I'm not a big fan of the whole 'force carb' thing. You can carb a keg of beer that way (theoretically) in a few hours but it's still a lot of work and very unreliable as a means of getting your target PSI. Carbing in the keg is a...

    Too much foam

+1. Good piece of detective work there! Thanks for posting the solution.

    Tried Everything, Still Foamy

I agree. The key is that it's only a problem with the first pour. If all subsequent pints are properly carbed, your system is fine and the pressure is good. That leaves the hardware: I hadn't heard about the bubbling issue brought up above and I'm not sure how a loop would help but it...

    Hop Bits in Draft Beer!

Thanks, that was me and I know I'm a noob. I just couldn't figure out where I could get anything that looked distinctly leafy like what came out in the cleaning solution because I only used an extract, steeped grains (filtered before kegging) and hop pellets, no buds or anything. It was my...

    Corney Problem

Did you release the pressure completely? If so and it's still stuck, maybe spray it with some tap and line cleaner. I keep some in an old windex spray bottle for doing things in between dips or for doing the top of the keg and stuff. It's probably just sticky from beer foam.

Anybody got experience with draft hopback?

Thanks, I appreciate the responses. I'm still new at homebrewing an kegging. The first few recipes have come out very nicely and I didn't want to screw up something that will make people not want to drink my beer. I figured if the hopback didn't work I could adjust it or disconnect it and...

Anybody got experience with draft hopback?

I just read about this process for incorporating some hops right in the line as the beer is on the way to the tap. I saw a commercial version for sale and it looks like an inline water filter canister. Has anyone here done this and if so, how do you do it? How much hops and is it...

Copper or SS as Beer Lines?

I used a heat gun to put the 3/16" hose on my 1/4" barbs. Just a quick shot, enough to soften it up, slides right on. Should work with any plastic lines if you're careful.

Copper or SS as Beer Lines?

I can't imagine the tap makers would ship their product with lines that could affect the taste and they come with plastic lines, don't they? I know the double tap that I just put in came with plastic lines and I just replaced the ends so I could use them with the corny kegs. I haven't tasted...

    Hop Bits in Draft Beer!

I'm not sure what it could be but I used hop pellets so in my case when I saw it in the cleaning solution I figured it was some kind of gunk from having dirty lines or something. (algae maybe? ) I'm new at this so I'm just guessing but the beers I had on tap didn't have anything but hop bits...

    Hop Bits in Draft Beer!

I'd try taking everything apart and cleaning it all thoroughly and see if it's still there the next time.

    Hop Bits in Draft Beer!

Are you sure it's hop bits? I just set up my keg a few weeks ago and we've already killed 3 1/2 filled corny kegs (bottled half, kegged the rest). I was going through the process of cleaning out the lines and noticed that some stuff that looked like small leaves came out after about 30...

    New guy from South Jersey

Hey ECD, Just joined myself. In case you're interested, there's a great place to learn and get stuff in person in Freehold, NJ called The Brewer's Apprentice. (No affiliation) They offer advice, sell equipment and ingredients as well as do brewing on premises for beer, wine and soda too...

Nice place you got here, mind if I hang around a while?

Nice place you got here, mind if I hang around a while?

Love the site. I'm new to home brewing but I tend to go overboard with my hobbies. I've always loved beer but never been much of a sampler. I had one beer I drank in the winter and one in the summer and that was pretty much it. Then a few weeks ago my son started homebrewing and his...
