    minimum height ?

Nothing a flamethrower wouldn't fix. Just the same, you'll have to train the bines to climb laterally. I did that for my first year of hop growing. They grew 9' high and then went across my driveway about 20'. Yes, that far. I had to wrap them around the strings every day so they wouldn't start...

Spring has officially sprung here in the PNW!

Yep, daffodils are blooming here, and my Chinook are poking out of the ground already. No signs of life from the Cascade and Mt. Hood though.

Moving... what do to with the mead?

Don't mess with it. Don't add sorbate, don't worry about the sloshing. That's only a worry if you had a half full carboy that had oxygen in it instead of CO2 like it does now. Potassium Sorbate will kill the fermentation, but after a few weeks? No. Forget it. It won't be anywhere near done...

    Honey Froze! any problems?

In a word, no. Long answer, you might get some crystallization in the honey, but it shouldn't affect the final product. The yeast will take care of all that.

    Can I use Beer Equipment.......

I've always used my beer making stuff for wine making stuff. Always works fine for me.

Does homemade wine actually taste good?

I have some 2007 blackberry wine picked from local bushes. It's excellent. Very very excellent. No, I'm not sharing.

What kind of string, and how heavy at harvest?

I've used all kinds of string, I recommend jute cord or sisal. They seem coarse enough for the bines to attach to, and don't stretch like nylon line does.

    Attention PDX area hop gardeners!

Well I dug around the hop plants today. My Centennial is already starting to sprout! The Cascades and Mt Hood still don't have enough root system to put out anything I'd want to use as a rhizome.

    Is it OK?

    Yes it's fine. Bottle it.

    Attention PDX area hop gardeners!

nicadrick I could check my Cascades to see if they've put off any rhizomes. They're 4 years old but I had to transplant them last year, so they may not be fully up to snuff.

Place to buy plants? (Yakima, WA)

So the largest producer of hops in the US has a quarantine on shipping rhizomes OUT of state? I find that hard to believe. I know Freshops based out of Philomath OR won't ship to WA addresses due quarantine laws.

    Unbreakable Pint Glasses

"After knives glass is the second most common weapon" Yea because you banned all the guns! If you ban knives and glass, they'll just move on to tire irons and wooden baseball bats. Or cricket bats. Whatever! That said, if the glasses look exactly the same but are just tempered then I'm all for...
