COMPLETELEY NEW, What kit to start with

I did and am glad for it... and that does not limit you to just a canned extract kit... a local or on line home brew supply store will have recipes kits in all grain, partial mash (steeping) and all extract versions.... of the same recipe. The Kit recipe takes a lot of the variables out of...

COMPLETELEY NEW, What kit to start with

That is a nice kit.. few things I learned after buying a top of the line kitchen sink kit....(which was full of options and swap outs... from Austin Home Brew Supply) Happy I upgraded to a 30qt double wall pot.... Now wish I had gone larger. All the brew kits seem to have a 5gal carboy for...

I'm sorry sir you've had too much...

To get back to the OP. No, never been cut off, but I don't really go to bars anymore... and never drove when i did. Yes I'be be a little pissed if I was cut off and an public announcement was made.. though it's a two edged sword.. If I was hammered,, then i deserved to be called out....If I...

I'm sorry sir you've had too much...

73 bars in south Tx were cited for selling to an intoxicated person. I wounder if they know this individual is telling the world he got away with drunk driving and endangering the public, even though the bar was supposedly hammered (pun intended) TABC site has a GREAT search program...

I'm sorry sir you've had too much...

See, you continue to show a complete lack of personal responsibility. There is nothing funny about your driving drunk,,, Nothing funny about you drinking to excess in public and then blaming your lack of moral, ethical behavior as a fault of anyone but YOU.

I'm sorry sir you've had too much...

    Fermintation Chamber II

My first fermentation chamber based on a nearly free 5.5 Cu Ft freezer using an STC-1000 was fun to build and has worked great for several batches.. But could only fit two 6.5 gal buckets at a time. Then I decided to start kegging... and the need for a new Ferm chamber was born. Days of...

Besides fermenting things, what are your other hobbies?

Besides Brewing?? I suppose these days it's Motorcycles mainly. Current collection is more road than dirt as Texas has crap for public riding land. Supporting current and past toys and hobby's is a well outfitted Automotive garage with machining, welding and metal fabricating capability.. that...

    Cooling with Ice Bags

Freeze a gallon of spring water.. drop that in the wort as both cooling and top off. Or get a cheap plastic tube/ trash can at a local dollar General or what ever you have there. Last resort, big strong cardboard box and some heavy duty trash bags to make a tub for the pot. Or... does she...

    Boiling down (reducing) wort

By chance do you have a double boiler? If so that would work (never measured, but pretty sure mine will do a gallon.. just, but should fit.) I've never reduced wort, but have many other high content prone to scorching or sugary liquids .... slow and steady has always been the key to success.

Steeping grain for the first time - what bag?

Im sure a paint strainer bag from the hardware store works.. but as I get my grain, extract and other beer making materials from a HBS place .. Im not wasting my time and gas to make a second stop at the Home Depot to pick up painting equipment. At my LHBS a Large Nylon grain bags cost me...

What do you use to take your gravity samples?

First two buckets I bought had a large hole, next 3 I bought did not so I put um on the mil and machined a hole. A hole saw with some clean up would work as well.. Just clamp the lid to a piece of wood as a backer

Thermowell to fit a Johnson Controller FE611

Polish the tube and fittings, soak in starsan.. I would think you'd be ok on sanitation... as long as the fittings are air tight and there are no pockets in the solder (so they should be a good fillet joint http://www.copper.org/applications/plumbing/techcorner/images/aws_3trule3.jpg ) Now...

http://www.brewershardware.com/16-Stainless-Steel-Thermowell.html Making your own if you can close seal the one end in a sanitary fashion that has no nooks and crannies for crap to grow is an option.. And While I could make a thermowell from SS tube and a solid piece machined to fit and...
