Sanke Keg - hole drilled slightly too big, need advice

I had ordered this Blichmann Brewmometer beforehand thinking I was going to get a Polarware kettle with a threaded insert BUT then I got a Keg instead and tried to make this work. I can't get a good seal because the hole was drilled slightly too big I think and now I'm trying to get washers and...

    Counterflow chiller cleaning and prep

Here is my plan: Rinse the chiller after use with One step no rinse cleanser. On brew day when my wort gets to 190 degrees or so I plan on recirculating wort through the chiller OR I could just run one step sanitizer through the chiller. Which would be best? Can anyne give me the...

Keggle - how to get all the wort out into chiller

Thanks all. Really I just wanted to see what people have done and take a survey and then make my decision. I have no problem soldering up a dip tube. I will do that and have purchased a screen that I cann put on the end of that as well. Knowing that I have the March pump on the way I was...

Keggle - how to get all the wort out into chiller

For now I'm still doing extract kits also so adjusting the recipe is a little tougher. Will my kit requirements change that much by boiling an extra gallon or so to make up for the deadspace? What about using the March pump to get it out of the pot from spigot and into the chiller?

Keggle - how to get all the wort out into chiller

I'm brand new to my keggle and am installing a spigot here this weekend. Hor do you guys with keggles manage to get all the wort out when the spigot is potentially 2-4 inches from the bottom of the keg? I see some people make a copper pipe come off the spigot inside and at a 90 degree bend to...

Making water tight seals on spigots, therm, etc...

My only thoughts were that maybe it could be a place for bacteria to cling on to??? That's kinda what made me post this question.

My beer gets great head, but why!? lol

I'm thinking over carbonation. I'm not sure why, I use the typical 5oz of priming sugar that comes with the extract kits. I typically per the recipe , boil the water and sugar, put in the bottom of my bottling bucket, and then let the beer swirl around the priming sugars as its racking from...

Making water tight seals on spigots, therm, etc...

I just converted over a Sanke Keg to a kettle and I plan on using the Weld-B-Gone Spigots, I purchased the stainless steel version but I'm wondering if people still use teflon tape on the threads to make sure there are no water leaks or what is the best?

    Counterflow Chiller Tutorial

Arkador, you have any pictures of your layout in action? I'm going to have a similar setup with burner, keg kettle, counterflow chiller and plastic fermenter bucket.

My beer gets great head, but why!? lol

Temp of the beer is str8 out of the refrigerator which is probably 37-42 degrees??? and the glass is 70-72 degrees. A lot of it could be that plus just washing the glasses with everything else in the dishwasher. Thanks all for giving me some ideas on things to correct. What is your...

    Sanke keg cleanup after grinding?

Ok, now I feel kinda dumb! haha, I know stainless steel doesn't rust I guess but what confused me was in another article people were talking about Actively repassivating the stainless or letting it set to repassivate itself??? I assumed they were talking about rust/oxidation. Any merit to this?

    Sanke keg cleanup after grinding?

Used a grinder to cut open the tops the same way Bobbym did (thanks man!) and it worked out well. My question is once done sanding the rough edges what else should I do? I'm thinking about rust from the exposed ground surfaces. I have some bar Keepers friend on order but I'm wondering how...

    Sanke Keg vs. PolarWare pot.

I considered buying a Polarware 10 gallon pot. I recently acquired 2 Sanke Kegs though and am considering just using one of these as my main brew kettle. Is there any drawbacks to trying to do 5 gallon batches in a Sanke Keg? I plan on putting a Weld-B-Gone Deluxe + kettle conversion...

Cleaning plastic fermenters with soft sponge

When I'm sanitizing I take a sponge that is just for my brewing and soak it with One Step Sanitizer. I then wipe off all the countertops and then let everything soak in sanitizer in the bucket. Once it soaks for a few minutes than I simply put everything on the sanitized countertops to dry...

My beer gets great head, but why!? lol

well we wash the glasses in the dishwasher with everything else. I figured that might have something to do with it??? but...didn't figure it would be the MAIN reason? let me know... I pour my beer with the glass slanted and pour it real slow.

5 gallon full boil extract. forcing me to the garage or basement? Need ideas!

I like the idea of using an electric heating element. Do the ones that heat up 5-10 gallon of wort all run on 240V? How much of an investment is that to get goign with? I just bought a 10 gallon Polarware pot to do 5 gallon full boils.
