Will my Pliny the Elder clone be better after aging or no?

i just finished making 15 gal. of Pliny clone. it's off the chain. drink it quick. it will melt your face. don't age this beer - it will waste all that dry-hopping. after i finished the first dry hop, i siphoned into the keg and used the tea ball to dry hop the last five days. Now it is below...

yeah, or dump some bourbon in and tell 'em it's a bourbon-aged imperial stout! would you be lying? well, except for the aged part!

A good (and somewhat quick) HG recipe

Why wouldn't you be able to drink an IIPA in the next few months? I think you have plenty of time for one of those. Right now I have a Pliny clone on draft that's maybe 6 weeks old and is phenomenal. The OG was 1.072. I think maybe the key is kegging. It would be tough to bottle an HG and have...

    Blow Off System

I just use a piece of aluminum foil that i've sprayed with sanitizer. I have to clean up a little more after it spooges on itself and in the chest freezer, but other than that, it's no big deal. Then after it's blown it's wad, i just put an airlock back on it.

    BMC...the switch-a-roo

This sorta reminds me of going to a bar with a few $$ in my pocket and ordering a Natural Light (yes i was that broke) on draught. It tasted like vinegar so strongly that i couldn't drink it. I sent it back and ordered a diet coke instead. Then some loser came in and sat at the table next to us...

    This Refractometer a Good Buy?

You just made me buy this. I finally pulled the trigger. I've been looking on ebay for the past few days - i just bought it now. I've watched some of the other homebrewers in our club use their refractometers and they just drip some of the wort from their stirring spoon onto the lens. No...

    Substitute for Crystal 45?

Thanks Dunerunner, I know that some of the crystal malts have caramel flavors and some really can't be substituted. We are making a 15 gallon batch - all grain. Almost 50 lbs. of grain!!

    Substitute for Crystal 45?

Hi, i'm going to be making the Pliny the Elder clone that was printed in Zymurgy. I don't have any Crystal 45 - but I do have some Crystal 15, Crystal 60 and Crystal 120. If only I could subtract some Crystal 15 from the Crystal 60 :cross: Any suggestions?

Craigslist find - should I buy?

i passed on it. thanks for all your input.

Craigslist find - should I buy?

Yep, my bad, I meant quarter barrel - I'm at work and trying to bang this out on the DL. And I'm new to the world of kegging - they are indeed sanke kegs - not ball lock. Sorry. This fella was more of a commercial beer drinker apparently. Also, the nitro tank has a regulator, but i don't imagine...

Craigslist find - should I buy?

So there's a guy selling a complete bar on Craigslist for $500. It includes a chest freezer (maybe 7 cu ft) that has had the thermostat rigged so it stays around 35F; a CO2 tank, dual regulator and lines; 2 tap tower and a nitro tank (no stout faucet). Also comes with 3 empty...

My 10 gal. Hop Slam clone - whaddya think?

Sounds cool. I'm in the process of moving into a new house, so it will be a couple of weeks before I'm organized (and rich enough) to ship some beer. Plus, it does need a couple more weeks in the bottle to carbonate. i'll PM you when it's ready to go.

My 10 gal. Hop Slam clone - whaddya think?

OK, just a follow-up. This beer has now been in the bottle for about 2 weeks. We have sampled 3 beers and it was really hard not to drink the rest. Only changes from the recipe above was 4 pounds of Caramel 40 instead of 2 and 6 pounds of regular honey instead of 4 of Orange Blossom. I'm...

    Nano Jockey Box

I've seen a lot of talk lately about beer going through copper lines. The last I read was that the carbonic acid creates a protective layer/patina when it reacts with the copper. This shields the copper from further degradation and protects the beer from contamination/off-flavors as well. The...

My 10 gal. Hop Slam clone - whaddya think?

So, here's the revised recipe: 26 lbs. Briess 2-row 2 lbs. Caramel 40 4 lbs. Orange Blossom Honey 4 oz. Centennial at 60 mins. 1 oz. Amarillo at 45 mins. 1 oz. Simcoe at 45 mins. 1 oz. Amarillo at 30 mins. 1 oz. Simcoe at 30 mins. 1 oz. Amarillo at 15 mins. 1 oz. Simcoe at 15 mins. 1 oz...

My 10 gal. Hop Slam clone - whaddya think?

OK, I gotta bump this. I'm rethinking this recipe after doing even more research. I'm ditching the rest of the specialty grains besides the 2-row and using 2 pounds of crystal 40 instead. Also - cutting the honey in half. And - using Amarillo and Simcoe and maybe Centennial. (Centennial for...

My 10 gal. Hop Slam clone - whaddya think?

whoops, yeah i forgot to adjust the yeast part of the recipe to 10 gallons. So, disregard the that part of the recipe.

My 10 gal. Hop Slam clone - whaddya think?

OK, so I found this recipe online for a Hop Slam clone and essentially doubled it to make 10 gallons. I don't have any software to plug it into - I jkust want to see if you folks think this will be close. thanks All Grain Recipe - Bells Hopslam ::: 1.089/1.020 (10 Gal) Grain Bill (75%...

Help Me Customize My New House for Brewing!

The brewhouse-shed would be sweet, but the lot isn't going to be huge. I'd rather have the setup in my garage where it can be hidden/shown off at will. I know I've seen threads where people have hooked up brew stands to natural gas lines and brewed in their basements/garages. How would you...
