    Barley crusher knurl with pitting

Got a hold of him. He says if it crushes and I want to pay for return shipping he will send me a new one. How hard do you think i should push him to cover shipping. He sent this crap as a replacement to begin with

    My interviewer was a homebrewer

Couldnt agree with you more, and when it is brought up in the interview, as it will be if it is on your resume (I think is what you are considering?) then is the time to say you sometimes get the chance to knock a few back on the weekends.

    Crummy Head retention and lacing!

Have you made sure there is no residual soap in your glasses? that will collapse your head. Just a thought. Do you have a loud tranfer during your brewing/fermenting process that could of used up your head forming proteins? As far as I know your flaked oats will add to a thicker mouthfeel, but...

    My interviewer was a homebrewer

I am torn. as far as working anytime I wasnt sleeping, this position is hourly, in which case anything after 40hrs/wk is ot. they can pay me $60/hr if they want. I will gladly work some OT. That is just a stupid amnt of money. The catch is, after I leave this traveling job (bound to happen...

    Placement of PID Thermocouple?

Sorry for stirring up an old thread, but as I am designing a herms system, wouldnt you want the probe on the inlet of the heat exchanger (output of the MT)? if the TC probe is after the rims tube or hex it will not give you the full mash temp.

    My interviewer was a homebrewer

Agreed but it should be 50% max. and although id be working from home I would still be working. The perk is if I worked 8-12, I could give my daughter 5 hours and pick back up from 5-9pm which, coupled with no 1 hr total commute and no 1 hr break buys me even more time to my day. Very tough...

    My interviewer was a homebrewer

I will find out if I get the 2nd interview early next week. I actually just accepted another job offer and am in my two week period with my current employer. As of now I am switching careers into design engineering, with a solid raise and day shift. Will be a great change. The interview I was...

    My interviewer was a homebrewer

I was in an interview recently and all was going great. after we got through all the technical jargon, we got to hobbies. Of course I explained how much I love the techical aspect of being a HBer. all the DIY, water chem, etc and that turned my interview into a half hour Q and A on how I can...

    Most over/under rated hop

I was the jerk pouring beer for the brewer at cincy beerfest this week telling people quietly to "check out the jolly pumpkin booth" or any other booth for that matter. Strange though that most people thought it was boss except the few that were judging with me. I have used citra many times for...

    Most over/under rated hop

agreed. a local brewery near me makes a citra hops only IPA. not good at all...

    fearing diacetyl

Just won 2nd and 3nd place in my local bjcp sanctioned brew comp for my 1st 2 lagers (dort export and munich dunkle). both went into kegs for lagering w/i 2 weeks. just adding to the point that there is no one right way to do something. Big pitch. No diacetyl at all. I will add I am very...

What should I do about this?

Look up blow off tube. You can either remove everything and use a large diameter tube (to fit inside the carboy) and put the other end in some water so it bubbles and acts as an air lock, or you can use a smaller tube that attaches to the inside of the airlock (by removing the airlock lid and...

Blichman Burner scorched on first use

    Looks normal to me.

You know you're a home brewer when?

You dump a half keg of good porter out cause you are burnt out of it from brewing 30gal in 8 mos and need the keg space to put your new lager on, just so you have your empty fermenters back that will need filling.. Viscious cycle

What I did for beer today

Put my first two lagers in competion sat. Earned 2nd and 3rd place for my Dort export and my Munich Dunkel. and got into cincy beerfest fo FREE. (and drank the jolly pumpkin kegs dry!) Also judged for the first time (other styles than what I entered of course). That is some exhausing work...

    two free Killians Pint Glasses...

it does say "Limit: one (1) George Killian’s Irish Red glass and one (1) George Killian’s Irish Stout glass per person/email address/household" I would assume that means 1 per household regardless of name/email

    Corny keg advice needed

Sounds like I will be doing some experimenting! Ill have to split my next batch and see if I can notice a difference. So if the OP can gain anything out of my unproductive responses it is this. although there are many ways to skin a cat, until you try the different methods yourself, you...

    Corny keg advice needed

You have a point. I like to keep as much yeast out of my keg as possible so I dont have to worry about filtering, or disturbing the cake at the bottom during a transport etx. also I have not weighed my tank, so my gauge pressure is irrelivent. I will say my 20lb tank is $18 ($0.90/lb) to fill...

    Corny keg advice needed

How would you save cash. Co2 is dirt cheap. Sugar costs money, and you can't cold crash and drop yeast before you keg. I pay something like .80/lb for co2. I have force carved 30 something kegs on it and haven't seen much of a dip in the tank gauge. I will also add that co2 is co2 and if you...

How to get the best hop aroma from flameout additions?

I cooled my wort down to 170 then threw 1 oz of cascade/colombus each for my first time. flavor and aroma kick ass (also did a flameout, 5 and 15 min though so not a control to base from) but I will say my beer has a huge haze im not used to seeing. I am assuming it is from the "rapid dryhop"...
