    Finally starting my keezer build

Did you put a collar on yours? With low profile couplers, I can close the lid without one. But I’ve started thinking a collar would make an easier space for running lines in & out and easier bends for going up the towers. I’m not as height restricted on my design & can add up to 3 more...

    Finally starting my keezer build

I suppose I could take a thin piece of metal and make attachment brackets so I can screw them to the frame. Then it would be just four screws to remove to replace them. Thanks. 👍🏼👍🏼

    Finally starting my keezer build

Finalized my CAD design this morning. My apologies for being an old school 2-D guy. Even when I was doing grading & drainage plans, I had to figure it out 2-D & then pull it into 3-D for cuts & fills. I realized with my tanks outside of the fridge, at buildout I can fit 6 kegs inside. My...

    Finally starting my keezer build

Since it’s a coffin keezer with interior shelves, I’m going to have cutouts in a piece of plywood to set computer fans for pulling heat away from the freezer’s exterior wall. What would be the best way to glue the fans to the plywood? Should I just go with liquid nails?

Kegerator build: need help deciding how many taps

If I was you, I think 4 would also be my plan. I guess I should clarify on my post, my first 3 taps are planned for 2 beers & a cider. My expansion would be 2 session beers, 1 heavy beer, a cider, a soda, & a seltzer water.

Kegerator build: need help deciding how many taps

I’m not the only beer drinker in my house but I don’t drink a lot anymore & my wife drinks even less. I’m working on my build. My freezer is large enough to hold 3 kegs + 1 fermentor bucket or 5 kegs. My plan is to start with 3 taps on a tower with the ability to expand to 6 taps with one...

    Jump in kegerator prices

The construction projects I’ve been managing have had all kinds of supply chain problems and outbreak delays. The latest issues are precast concrete & pumps. I work next door to the Port of Seattle and shipping in and out has been a mess since June last year. At first it was too many...

    Finally starting my keezer build

Thanks. I have a new found respect for people who do vinyl wrapping. It was a pain in the ass. It rippled along the top and corners, but that won’t be visible in the finished product. Having a new mirror in the house at his level is really bothering my cat. I’ve always had a table cloth...

    Keezer cycling too often

I did finally get a good timer on my freezer’s cycling: 7 minutes on, 66 minutes off.

    Finally starting my keezer build

Finally getting to my keezer build. Took my first baby step today. I mirror wrapped the front. The vinyl wrap will give me a reflective surface behind the built in liquor cabinet without having to use an actual mirror. My kid was an invaluable assistant. It was definitely a 2 - 3 person...

    Keezer cycling too often

Sorry, compressor, not condenser. McMullan said he uses a fridge keezer that runs all the time.

    Keezer cycling too often

I tried timing my freezer’s cycle today but gave up after the off cycle hit the 3.5 hour mark. You have to remember that air is an insulator, which is why you need the fan to circulate heat to the interior wall where the compressor will remove it. But the air temperature is not going to be the...

    Keezer cycling too often

It’s hard to say because there are so many variables: age of freezer, efficiency of compressor, set temperature, & temperature differential. A new freezer (running as a freezer) will run 80% of the time. And old freezer will run about 50% of the time. A full cycle will be about 30 minutes. A...

    Keezer cycling too often

I assume that the probe taped to the compressor hump. What the compressor does is take heat from the interior wall and radiates it out through the exterior wall. So the interior wall gets really cold really fast & that’s where your probe is mounted. Either do the cup of water thing or tape it...

    Failed carbonation

The link doesn’t appear to say what yeast was used, however 13% is above most yeast’s alcohol tolerance. In my experience, when bottling, anything over 8% takes extra time to carbonate. A 13% beer may never fully bottle carbonate. I had that happen to me with an 11% beer.

Thinking of upgrading from 8 to 10 gallon kettle, worth it?

For me, a 2 gallon jump would not be worth the for the expense of a new kettle unless my setup was super annoying for me and I was limited on storage space. The cost difference between 10 gallons and 15 gallons is probably $50 and you’d never be size limited for a 5 gallon brew.

Can you use diastatic power to calculate mashing time?

Below 30L is probably not fully self converting regardless of how long you let it go. My recommend would be: - increase the MO, - add/substitute a touch of 2 Row or Wheat Malt into the grain bill, or - cut your speciality grains. Breiss’ White and Red Wheat Malt are 160L and 180L respectively...

I'm an apartment brewer looking to level up to all-grain brewing and need some advice/guidance

If you are bottling, 10 gallons isn’t that much worse than 5 gallons, especially if you have a good mix of bottle sizes. It just tacks a few hours onto the process. But bottles take space in the apartment, space in the house, and space in the move in-between. If it was me and I was bottling...
