    Thinking about an IPL

Update: The choice was made for me. The LHBS only had the citrus hops. Brew day is tomorrow. Correction: brew day is Monday. I’m going to half-ass a starter

    What are you drinking now?

Best beer I’ve had in a long time.

    Pliny in Utah

Nice. I’ll make note of that. Sooner or later, I’ll be driving through the area. My old man just moved to SoCal and when I make the road trip to see him, we’ll probably pass through San Francisco for fun.

    Pliny in Utah

LOL, not as dead as this thread was. I don’t post, brew, or drink nearly as much as I did back in the day. I moved to the San Juans 8 years ago and then the Seattle area a few years after that. The upshot is obtaining not-IPAs is now tougher than obtaining IIPAs.

    Thinking about an IPL

@madscientist451, but I love reinventing the wheel. I’ve been modifying recipes since the second one I brewed, 17ish years ago. The problem with a double brew day is my system isn’t really geared for doing less than 4 gallons at a time and at my current imbibe-rate, 8 gallons will take two...

    Thinking about an IPL

I’m working on a recipe using Aramis, Belma, and HBC-630. When I’ve got it, I’ll work on a Perle, Moteuka, & something recipe and make my decision. Here’s a question I never thought I’d ask: Would whirlpool hops be pointless since I’m lagering? Should I just hit it with late boil additions...

    Thinking about an IPL

I was trolling around Yakama Direct’s webpage and started thinking about Aramis for bittering. It looks like a higher AA version of Strisselspalt with some fruitiness. I was thinking pairing it with a red-fruity hop red like Belma & HBC 630. @Jag75, I’ve had good luck with Moteuka in the past...

    Thinking about an IPL

I’m thinking about brewing an IPL/hoppy Pilsner for Memorial Day and seeking a little advice. I’ve been thinking about starting off with a Bitburger base because there is a personal nostalgia factor. It used Perle & Hallertau hops. But I’m open to American or NZ hops. To start with, I’m...

can you make a beer with no barley, using wheat and oats?

Yes, high probability of a mash though. Taste might be weird. Use a bunch of rice hulls.

    Random Drunken Thoughts Thread

I get it. Some things are tougher to give up than others. I’m vegan except for roughly one meal a month. That’s about how often I’m faced with the choice of “eating meat or not eating.” The choice is never going to be “not eating” unless it is something that makes me physically ill (I’m...

It also smells like skunky vegetables to me when it’s smoked. But the flowers in full bloom (Kush strain) smell exactly like Columbus hops to me.

how about a meme generator thread...

They really need to stop trying to make robots look like people. If you want to see the video:

    Cats

My 17 year old boy just got a clean bill of health from the vet. He even managed to lose half a pound over the last two years. Although the vet did ask we limit his table food with garlic in it. I can’t imagine why. (Yes, I really know why.)

I never realized how much flowering cannabis smells like fresh hop cones.

    What are you drinking now?

Island living is just flat out expensive. I can tell you from living on a ferry-only island and a bridged island here in WA - especially food, utilities, & fuel. They are also less reliable because there are fewer system redundancies. Puerto Rico is especially expensive because the Jones Act...

    What are you drinking now?

My wife and I have kicked around the same idea, which is the closest she’s ever gotten me to talk about retirement. Her dad is living there part time & in FL part time. Our kid is lobbying hard for New Zealand. I told them, I have to get to the end of my current project (early-2023 to...

    What are you drinking now?

Found this at the grocery store & had to buy. On a smokiness scale from 0 to Laphroaig, I’d give it a 7, maybe 7.5.

There are many easier ways to find a water pipe but few are more exciting than using a 16” steel pile. How was your day?

    Random Drunken Thoughts Thread

Between the holidays and the weather, my work decided to shutdown for the week. Which is okay because I’m not in operations. I’m managing a construction project. Well, my contractor just pulled off for the rest of the week because they can’t get materials because of the weather and the...
