I agree with you gspot. I too kept 214 entire time and also never let my propane system boil harder. I also can't believe efficiency. I will have to work on my calculations thou. I wanted 5.5 gal and ended up with 6. I think it was because GF calcs are for 90 min boil and not 60.

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Westvleteren 12 Clone - Multiple Award Winner

Quick question; I purchased 3 pounds of D-180 for recipe and one is different. Does anyone know what the difference is?

Wow, this thing kicks butt with my new outlet. 214 degrees and a rolling boil. GF effiecency calculator said I got 100%. Not sure how true this is but my pre-boil OG was a lot higher than expected. My times are 85-151 deg 25min. 151-169 deg 6min. 168-214 deg 38min.

CSI: where did you buy your flask parts for your Krausen trap? I've searched the Internet up and down and can't find those parts. I would love to set a system up like that.

Glad I decided to read this post as I just purchased everything today for this recipe. Don't want to learn the hard way like mmacdon. Guess I'll head to the hardware store tomorrow to get larger tubing.

    Grainfather!!

Quick 45 min of work and I now have a dedicated 20amp GFCI outlet next to my garage door. Only 20amp outlet I had before in garage was far back corner and was ran off kitchen reefer circuit. This didn't occur to me until this morning when I was going to brew that I would not be able to hook...

Are you accounting for cooling shrinkage? Are you measuring from water started with or from water level at start of boil? Mine boiled off about .6 per hour which is close to my gas system.

This was to a decent boil. It's not like a boil from my gas burners, but it will definitely do the job.

I received mine on Christmas Eve. Did initial cleaning and function check; all good. I did boil check with 7 gal of 100 degree water. 100-213 took 90 min and had good boil at sea level with no insulation. Chesapeake VA.
